Arctic Cat racer takes Pro-Open, Pro-Super Stock at Canterbury

Tucker Hibbert continued his winning streak over the weekend, winning the Pro-Open and Pro-Super Stock classes at Canterbury in Minnesota, Jan. 10.

According to the ISOC, the Monster Energy / Arctic Cat Racing Team rider gained the lead on the first lap of the 26-lap Pro-Open, with a holeshot lead off of fellow Cat racer, Brett Turcotte. A Polaris trio of Levi LaVallee, DJ Eckstrom and Ross Martin closed in on Turcotte.

In the early laps, Eckstrom went off the track, which put him behind the pack. TJ Gulla picked off Ski-Doo's Robbie Malinoski and placed fifth. The running order continued to be: Hibbert, Turcotte, LaVallee, Martin and Gulla until lap 13 with Martin and LaVallee in a tight battle for third place.

On lap 19 Malinoski went off the track, forcing a red flag and single-file restart with 7 laps remaining.

"With the field tightened up, the chance for Tucker to be knocked off his game was on once again, but a clean restart put Tucker in the clear for the win," an ISOC spokesman said.

The finishing order at the flag was Hibbert, Turcotte, Gulla, LaVallee and Martin.

In the 26-lap Pro-Super Stock race an incident following the start forced Ryan Simons, Gulla, Martin and Andrew Johnstad to regroup and work from behind the pack. This allowed Hibbert to drive off with another victory.

Hibbert edged ahead of LaVallee who was followed by Brett Bender, Garth Kaufman, Eckstrom, Turcotte and Shaun Crapo. The running order remained consistent throughout the first half of the race. Kaufman edged toward the front and picked off Bender on lap 16 and then battled LaVallee at the end.

    Kaufman eventually took second.

At the end, after Hibbert lapped every sled except the top four, the running order was Hibbert, Kaufman, LaVallee, Bender and Eckstrom.

In other racing at Canterbury last weekend:

Ski-Doo earned its first major win of the season during the Semi-Pro Super Stock, when Tim Tremblay charged from fifth to first, the ISOC reports.

He took the checkered in front of Dan Ebert (Cat) and Derek Ellis (Polaris).

Christian Salemark experienced an early race get-off and failed to return to the race.

"In what proved to be one of the most exciting races of the evening, a series of battles shaped up early as Dan Ebert held the lead with Alaskan rider Cory Davis also on an Arctic Cat; Mike Bauer on a Polaris; and Derek Ellis on a Polaris," the ISOC spokesman said.

Davis passed teammate, Ebert, on lap 8 and looked to be the winner, but a mechanical problem on the second to last lap allowed Tremblay to pull off the win.

The finishing order was Tremblay, Ebert, Ellis, Paul Bauerly and Matt Pincher.

Ebert reclaimed top form during the Semi-Pro Open. The finishing order for the finale was: Ebert, Tremblay, Ellis, Bauerly and Chris Kafka.
