Posted 2 days ago by AmSnow
Last month, I embarked on an Epic Snowmobile Adventure to travel the Western United States in search of snow, while promoting avalanche safety and highlighting the differences between trail riding and mountain riding. The project would not have been possible without numerous sponsors, supporters and well-wishers, with one of those being Caliber Products Inc. I met the folks at Caliber many years ago as we traveled to the same snowmobile events promoting the industry we love. I felt an immediate...

King of the Mountain event celebrates 10 years in Morris, Pennsylvania

Posted 8 days ago by AmSnow
As our snow season winds down Jon Johnville attended the 10th annual King of the Mountain event in Ski Sawmill in Morris Penn. The event was moved to the main slope in front of the lodge so the spectators had a better view of the racing action.  This race is truly a spectators event, they do not charge an entry fee for the event but they do charge for parking all of $5.00/person or $10.00/car load. They really do pack in the spectators and they line the hill to watch the racing action. This...

Mid Season Review - 2015 Arctic Cat ZR6000 RR - Ups and Downs

Posted 8 days ago by Ross Halvorson
Ups: This sled is light anyway you look at it (handling, wet weight, etc.), the fun-meter here is through the roof! The 600cc 2-stroke is easy on fuel and oil, smooth throttle pull with a quick response, strong shock package (borderline too stiff) all the way around really lets you push the sled. Downs: There really aren't many here. The sled is pretty cold with the low sport windshield, electric start would be nice too, but if you use this sled for its intended purpose (the race track) you...

Red Bull plans for 2016 Snow Boundaries

Posted 9 days ago by AmSnow
Continued warm weather and a fast melting snow pack at Big Powderhorn Mountain in Michigan has forced the cancellation of Red Bull Snow Boundaries, a first-of-its-kind snowmobile enduro race, scheduled to be held March 27. An extremely abnormal stretch of warm weather has proved too much to overcome as event organizers took a first hand look at course conditions and determined the current layout to be unsatisfactory for an endurance event. All possible alternatives were explored, but the warm we...

If the entire extreme powersports industry took a vote on who had the best competition year on the race track, experts from snowmobiles to road and dirt bikes, UTVs and ATVs and personal watercraft would be hard pressed not to cast their vote for Tucker Hibbert (Monster Energy/Arctic Cat/Ram Trucks) and the year he and his team put together on the AMSOIL Championship Snocross, powered by Ram Trucks, tour. Mid Season Review - 2015 Arctic Cat XF8000 Sno Pro - Ups and Downs

Posted 16 days ago by Ross Halvorson
Ups: Surprisingly warm for such a small windshield (except for hands), excellent off-trail handling, smooth rear suspension, feels very light despite what we found in our wet weight testing (see Spring 2015 Issue), overall a very comfortable sled with smooth acceleration. Downs: Front end wanted to wander a little too much on the trail (tried several different adjustments), hand warmers seemed inconsistent, a little heavier than we'd like to see on the oil consumption as well, left a little...

Slightly better storage than others (60th Anniversary Edition), very easy to access side panels, very strong shock package with easy adjustments, excellent trail manners. Downs: Stock windshield does little to protect rider, no electric start, difficulty starting on several occasions (not cold temperature related), fancy GPS gauge is nice, but has plenty of room for improvements (some of which were made...
