Eagle River, Wis. - Matt Schulz of Wausau, Wis. won the 47th AmSoil World Championship Snowmobile Derby on January 17 becoming the first Wisconsinite to win since 1995 and the first Polaris racer to win since 1978, according to the News of the North.

Schulz led the race for all 25 laps that the twelve finalists races on the half-mile oval banked track.

He had the fastest time during Thursday's qualifying races and took off after the shot gun on Sunday never looking back.

Schulz took the checkered flag with three-time champ P.J. Wandersheid, Sauk Centre, Minn., coming in second aboard an Arctic Cat sled. Malcolm Chartier, of Marine City, Mich., took third place on a Ski-Doo.

Schulz was injured last year before the race and had to sit out, according to News of the North.
