As we suspected and forecasted in our February issue, Ski-Doo has dropped a new Rotax E-TEC 800R engine into its MXZ-X package. The E-TEC technology is the gold standard in clean, lightweight, efficient 2-stroke technology. AmSnow will be receiving our new limited build 2010 demo unit this week and will be on the snow testing it ASAP.

The new 800R E-TEC with its high tech ECU and electronic injector system is said to be even more powerful than the current 800R engine. In addition, Ski-Doo claims the new motor gives 37% better fuel economy at an average 19mpg and a larger 202-mile fuel range. Oil economy is said to be 264 miles per quart too!  Ease of use is another benefit as the engine pulls over easily and starts on the first pull. There is a new lighter throttle pull, automatic break-in function, auto summarization function, refined idle, and no smoke or smell. Emissions are also lower than any other 800 on the market.

The E-TEC technology won the Clean Air Technology Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency when it was introduced on the Evinrude outboard motors in 2003. The 600 E-TEC snowmobile from BRP was introduced in 2008 and has become the industry's best-selling 600cc engine.

A very limited number of the 2010 E-TEC 800R will be available at BRP dealers soon for consumer purchase, but a demo tour of the sleds will be traveling the snow-belt for the remainder of the winter so keep an eye on AmSnow.com or Ski-Doo.com for a schedule of events. There will also be several Summit E-TEC 800R demo units available at western outlets.
