Ski-Doo has voluntarily recalled snowmobiles with E-TEC engines due to a potential fire hazard, says BRP in a recall notice.
According to the notice, under certain conditions the fuel pump inlet fitting may come in contact with the oil tank and break which could permit fuel to leak. If the leakage occurs, fuel vapors in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire and potentially cause injuries.
Riders should immediately stop using their Ski-Doo snowmobile and contact an authorized BRP Ski-Doo dealer and make an appointment to have the snowmobile repaired.
Fuel and oil tank spacers will be installed at no charge.
According to Ski-Doo, many dealers have the parts in stock and the parts can be installed in about 30 minutes or less.
This is not good. The BRP web shows a letter they are sending out dated 01/21/13. I still haven't received my notice. Worse yet, it is the best sledding of the season now & I can't use my sled.
I lust spoke to my dealer and this only involves the 2013 models.
This is good but it is not the BRP Recall notice in that it does not state what sleds are invalved. the E Tec engine in Ski Doo sleds have ben out for 4 or 5 model years now. Is it all E Tec's or just certen models or hole years E Tec sleds ??????????
BRP site just says E-TECs involved. I talked with my dealer and gave my VIN and found out my GSX isn't involved. The dealer stated it is primarily late 2010 and 2011 Adrenaline and Renegade E-TECs involved. My suggestion is to call a dealer and validate your VIN against any and all recalls.
Sure wish my dealer would have sent me a note regarding the E-TEC fire hazard recall. My 2013 E-TEC 800 bought last March caught fire yesterday. Sent the dealer a note today telling him he would have a sled on his front door step tomorrow morning. This is our best snowmobiling year in years and now I'm without a sled.
