Jack Henricks broke the 24 year-old Guinness World Record for the Fastest Pass on Ice at the National Straightline Snowmobile Racing first race of the season in Menomonie, Wisconsin. NSSR held this second attempt to overcome the NSSR quarter mile record of Marv Jorgenson established in 1989 at 190.308 mph with a 189 mph back up speed in the fine City of International Falls! This record set on the three engine four cylinder on NOS Jaws Machine has stood for over 24 years! The NSSR 2013 competitors included Jack Henricks, Mike Martin, and Marc Fricke and they came to do this record justice.
Marv Jorgenson Quarter Mile Record was in 1989 at 190.308 mph.
Temperatures ranged from -4 to 15 degrees F with a light breeze from the East and Southeasterly during the day. The track was aimed South. Jack Henricks out of Rhinelander, Wisconsin was to the line first and posted an amazing 190.728 mph pass on his single engine sit up and ride Henricks Motorsports/OSP Yamaha for a new top speed of this decade! Wow! Mike Martin of Illinois followed on his Busa Mod to post an amazing speed of 181.512 mph and Marc Fricke of Illinois sent his Cat through the traps at a 173.493 mph. The question now is if Jack Henricks can back this up and take the new NSSR Record in the Quarter Mile? The answer is yes by posting a second pass at 189.890 mph! Jack is now set to be submitted also for the Fastest Pass on Ice to the Guinness World Record! Mr. Dick Gokey, President, of the International Snowmobile Racing organization was on hand to witness this fine event and we at NSSR thank him for his effort and interest. Thanks to you Mr. Dick Gokey!Top Speed of the day was captured by Mike Martin on the Busa Mod at 164.258 mph in the 1000 foot mark. Mike is getting use to driving his new machine as this is the same machine that holds the top speed of 183.439 mph set in 2010 at Chetek, Wisconsin by Fast Eddy Ensor of Sheridan, Illinois. Racer entries included nearly 80 on the Pro track and over 40 on the Fun Run track for nearly 450 passes between the two shaved ice tracks. NSSR Racers posted eight new World Records at this race, despite a slight headwind. Mike Mansfield of Minnesota rocked his Trail Stock 800 triple Polaris to a 110.344 mph run with a backup of 108.542 mph. Dan Graunke took his Professional Stock Ski Doo 600 RS to a new record at an amazing 110.911 mph. Tia VanGuilder came out swinging on her Improved Stock 800 Mach Z to bump the record up to 130.120 mph – nice! Doyle Swift peddled his Thundercat to an amazing 139.579 mph run and was able to back it up with a 136.925 mph pass to steal the record back from Tia VanGuilder! Rick Schellbach want to bump his old record up on his Open Mod 1100 and raised that to a 157.952 mph – Rick has been a member of the 150 mile per hour club for a number of years! Kyle Shilts brought out a brand new XF1000 Artic Cat to set the record in NSSR’s new Stock Turbo – Improved Stock Four Stroke Class at an amazing 136.062 mph. What is neat about this one is that you can go trail riding tomorrow with his set up, so you have to love this machine! Vintage is more exciting than ever and these classics are coming out swinging. Roger Davidson came out with his Polaris Hot Rods to win both the Vintage Stock C and D classes, but could not back up the speeds for the World Record. Chris Parent on his 1976 Mercury set the pace at a 76.257 mph pass in Stock D and Samy Christianson posted a 73.469 mph pass for the Stock C Record! All records require a run within 2% to back up their World Record run!! Nearly 400 fans and race supporters were on hand to witness the record setting runs throughout the day.The battle of the day was in the Professional Stock 700 single pipe class between Scott Kostman and Patty Olson! Both of these fine racers know what it means to hold a World Record and they both have those 2003 F7 Cats finely tuned! Scott came out on top with a 114.741 mph pass to Patty’s 114.437 mph pass. That is tight racing folks! Patty still holds the record at 116.599 mph in this class.
