National Straightline Snowmobile Racing held the second race of the NSSR 2013 Super Series on Forest Lake in Forest Lake, Minn. and posted eighteen new World Records.

Temperatures ranged from 25 to 34 degrees F with a light wind of about 8 to 12 mph. The 1000 foot shaved ice track was aimed to the Northeast.

Racer entries included nearly 95 on the Pro track and almost 90 on the Fun Run track for nearly 700 passes between the two shaved ice tracks. Jenny Stevens of Dayton, Minn. set the pace on the Fun Run, posting a breathtaking 138 mph pass on her modified Polaris Storm. Nearly 40 of the 95 Pro Entries ran at speeds of 120 mph or better in this competition.

Steve Hoch of Mondovi, Wis. led the way in Trail Stock 500 on his Polaris setting a record at 91.428 mph. Mike Mansfield of Minn. rocked his Trail Stock 800 triple Polaris to another record pass of 112.353 mph. Joe Reinhardt on his Artic Cat T-Cat bumped the Trail Stock 1000 record to 114.893 mph to take out the long standing record from 2008 of Pat Welty of Ohio. Seth Thorson took the weekend off of Cross Country racing to bring his Yamaha Nytro to a new record of 101.289 mph in the Trail Stock Four Stroke Class. Seth also took a new record in the Four Stroke Stock 3 cylinder class on his Yamaha Nytro back up sled of 98.742 mph. Skylar Tomlin then ran his 1999 Polaris XC Fan to a record setting pass at 84.955 mph. Brandon Damask of Hatley, Wis. came with Go Fast Racing of Wisconsin to take the Professional Stock 600 single pipe record on his 2005 Artic Cat at 111.053 mph.  Dan Graunke took his Professional Stock 2008 Ski Doo 800R XP to a new record at an amazing 116.129 mph in the 800 single pipe class. All we can say is that our announcer, Lon Oelke, was getting hysterical announcing all the fast speeds and we are not done yet. Kris Doberstein of CSE came out swinging on her Improved Stock Twin 600 Artic Cat to bump her record up to 117.711 mph – nice!

For the Hot Rods that go 120 mph and above, we had Larry Norberg of Slingshot Racing set the pace on his Pro Stock 600 Ski Doo at 122.033 mph. Mike Cleary bumped up the Pro Stock 1500 record to 146.938 mph on his Ski Doo. Megan Norman on her Justice Brothers Ski Doo was able to take her Dad’s 2009 Record up to 132.718 mph. John Anderson took back the Open Mod 500 Record on the Vortex Chassis at 133.127 mph. Rick Schellbach posted a whopping 160.000 mph speed for a new record on his Open Mod 1100 Anderson/Union Bay entry. Brad Cone of Fairmont, MN on his Henricks Powersports/OSP Yamaha posted a 157.090 mph World Record in the Four Stroke Improved Stock Class.

Vintage is more exciting than ever and these classics are coming out swinging. Remember, Roger Davidson of Duluth, Minn. came out with his Polaris Hot Rods to win both the Vintage Stock C and D classes in Menomonie, WI, but could not back up the speeds for the World Record. This time he was able to take the record in the Vintage D class at 79.778 mph. Samy Christianson on her 1978 Ski Doo Blizzard set the pace with a 80.747 mph pass in Vintage Stock C!

The battle of the day was in the Pro Stock 1000 triple pipe class between Mike Cleary and Joe Kittel of Straightline Performance, with Mike taking the win and setting a new World Record in this class at 147.692 mph! Joe took a close second at 146.192 mph. No matter how you cut it, this is fast and furious for this class!

Top Speed of the day was captured by Mark Fricke of Melrose Park, Ill. at 168.750 mph in the 1000 foot mark. Mark continues to tune on the twin cylinder turbo charged two stroke 1200 and is making great progress.

All records require a run within 2% to back up their World Record run!!  Nearly 600 fans and race supporters were on hand to witness the record setting runs throughout the day.
