Textron to Close Arctic Cat Offices in Minneapolis

Arctic Cat Minneapolis headquartersTextron Inc. announced that it plans to close Arctic Cat's Minneapolis headquarters building.

The decision to close the freshly renovated building located in downtown Minneapolis will impact 62 employees, according to a report in the Thief River Falls Times. A few options are on the table for those impacted employees, including moving to Arctic Cat's St. Cloud, Minn., engine manufacturing facility or their Thief River Falls manufacturing facility.

Arctic Cat moved its corporate offices from Plymouth, Minn., to the newly renovated warehouse in downtown Minneapolis less than a year ago. Company executives hosted an open house for the snowmobile media just this past January for the 2018 snowmobile model release. The move from the Plymouth location to a resurgent Minneapolis business district was seen as strategic move by the old Cat regime to attract new, young business professionals to the company who might not otherwise consider working for a business primarily located in a more rural setting.

Arctic Cat Minneapolis headquartersTextron Spokesperson Brandon Haddock said Textron will be relocating production of its Stampede line of 4x4s to the Thief River Falls facility. That move will impact a few employees from its Augusta, Ga., plant, but the majority will be moved to other incoming new product manufacturing projects.

Haddock also said Textron was moving production of the Stampede engines from Berlin, Germany to the St. Cloud facility.

Both moves regarding the Stampede vehicles are seen as ways for Textron to take advantages of logistical efficiencies created from the company's $247 million acquisition of Arctic Cat in January 2017.
