Minocqua Cruiserfest: Fast Snowmobile Drag Racing Fun!

Posted 9 years ago by mboncher
Each year, one of the fastest and most fun local snowmobile events in the Northwoods of Wisconsin is Cruiserfest in Minocqua.  This year, the 'run-what-you-brung' snowmobile ice drag event was nearly cancelled due to extremely warm weather just five days before the races were to happen. Mother nature and the hard-working volunteers at the event turned things around though and the event went off without a hitch. This year the Minocqua Cruiser's snowmobile ...

Snowmobiling out west is at its best

Posted 9 years ago by AmSnow
By: Stephen Clark, AmSnow correspondent It has been pretty hectic since my last blog post. Mark Boncher, AmSnow's Senior Editor, flew out a couple of weeks ago, and we went and rode the new Yamaha's in Wyoming. They officially launched the machines on Tuesday, so we are now allowed to talk about them. And thank goodness because it has been hard not talk about them. The new sleds are awesome! Lots of changes, including ones that benefit mountain riders. The ...

    AmSnow rides ERX snocross park

Posted 9 years ago by mboncher
This last weekend I got the chance to ride the ERX snocross park in Elk River, Minnesota.  Mind you, I am a novice snocross track rider and stayed away from doing any crazy triples. I also didn't torch through the rythym sections of the course, but it was a blast to go out and ride the same track that the pros practice on.   The big table top jump was a lot of fun and relatively harmless. While I was at the track I saw little kids on their 120s rolling the track, intermediate r...

The snowmobile season in the west is now underway!

Posted 9 years ago by AmSnow
By: Stephen Clark, AmSnow correspondent Snowmobiling has taken off in a big way in the west certainly for me anyway. For the last week it has been non-stop on the road going from event to event covering them for Am Snow. It started last Friday with the RMSHA race in Preston Idaho, I had originally planned on only attending for one day but I had so much fun on Friday that I couldn't miss the finals on Saturday. The weather was stunning so it made for some good p...

Posted 9 years ago by AmSnow
By: Stephen Clark, AmSnow correspondentThe 2009 RMSHA Hill Climb race season begins in Preston Idaho this Friday 01/16-17. And after close to a month in the office stuck behind the keyboard of a laptop I can hardly wait to get out shoot some pictures and see what is going on in the RMSHA paddock this season.A recent phone call with RMSHA president Scott Crane enlightened me somewhat as to what is going on with RMSHA these days. It seems that the stock class in RMSHA really is st...

Deer slayers: Craziness on the trails

Posted 9 years ago by AmSnow
I'm sick, absolutely sick, after learning of this weekend's bizarre incident in Wisconsin's Waupaca County, where snowmobilers purposely killed and tortured deer. This is nothing short of crazy. There is no excuse. The people who killed the deer are sick and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.  In short, here's what we know after reading  many reports and our staff calling a variety of DNR and police officials, snowmobile club members ...

    First Rides of the Year

Posted 9 years ago by mboncher
Well we've put on several hundred miles on most of our demo sleds already this year and things look to be going well for every sled in our fleet. The Arctic Cat Z1 Turbo has been hailed as 'stupid-fast' by many of our riders and the shock and suspension package on the Yamaha Nytro RTX SE has been a favorite through the rough trails. The Polaris Dragon 800 has also scored high marks early in the season for handling and the Ski-Doo MXZx 1200 4-TEC has been called the best all-day cruis...

    Hay Days 2008

Posted 9 years ago by mboncher
The staff at AmSnow just got back from Hay Days, the official start to the snowmobile season here in the Midwest. Each year this huge grass drag, vendor show and swap meet is held just north of Minneapolis near Lino Lakes, Minn. Many of us snowmobile industry types use Hay Days as a gauge for the upcoming season, and this year was extremely optimistic. Traffic at the show was up and so were vendor sales. There was even a rumor that the gate sold out of wrist bands on Saturday! This is all ...
