Lots of sleds, lots of snow, and miles upon miles of fun! That was the experience of everyone involved with the first annual AmSnow Ride-In this past weekend.
The Boarders Inn & Suites in Munising, Mich., was the ideal location to serve as our hub for the weekend. Riders began to flood the parking lot with sled-filled trailers Thursday afternoon, and the stream of guests and sponsors continued through Friday evening.
Guests were welcomed with opportunities to demo and learn about products from our great sponsors. They even got to test ride new snowmobiles from two of the snowbelt’s elite dealers: Road Track & Trail and Rob’s Performance Motorsports.
There was plenty of excitement Friday night, as guests, sponsors and AmSnow staff gathered for happy hour, dinner and a warm welcome. Everyone anxiously awaited the next day's guided backcountry and trail rides in the Munising area.
A perfect day with low winds and temps hovering near 30 F greeted riders on Saturday. Starting bright and early at 7:45 a.m., more than 150 riders left in their designated groups at their staggered departure times.
From there, groups headed to scenic overlooks along Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, finding more photo ops along the beautiful shores of Lake Superior as they headed to Grand Marais. Our aggressive trail riding groups had more than 120 miles clocked by the time their groups met up at the Bear Trap Restaurant for a hearty lunch. Even the less aggressive touring groups were nearing the century mark by lunchtime.
As groups trickled into the Bear Trap for their noontime meal, you could overhear the stories of the morning rides. Faces beaming with smiles, riders geared up again in the afternoon and headed out for more fun on the snow.
All 150+ riders made their safe return to Boarders Inn & Suites, where they enjoyed another delicious meal and a frosty beverage, made memories and swapped more stories. It was a picture perfect day of snowmobiling, capped off with a little revelry and thousands of dollars in prizes given away in a Saturday evening raffle.
The AmSnow staff and test riders agreed this was one of our favorite weekends on snow in recent memory. Seeing more than 150 sleds lined up outside our hotel on Friday night, ready and waiting for their moment on Saturday, brought us back to a time when snowmobiling was in its prime. Seeing the wide variety of folks who chose to spend their weekend with us and all our sponsors reinvigorated us and our passion for this sport.
Some guests made this weekend a “guys’ trip,” while others chose to use it as a couples getaway. Still others treated it as a family vacation. The best part was, it didn’t matter what brought them there. At the end of the day, we are all snowmobilers and we love it!
We’d love to have all our guests and sponsors back next year. We also hope that if you didn’t get the chance to join us this year, you’ll consider spending a weekend at the AmSnow Ride-In next season! Stay tuned to your issues of American Snowmobiler magazine, and sign up for our e-newsletter, to stay informed about future events. After this weekend, we can promise that there will be more like this one!
