AmSnow Western Editor Ryan Thompson already out shredding POW

November 7th, 2018 marks the first day of riding for the Western crew. Ryan, Lonnie and Curt Thompson - better known around here as the TTRP (Thompson Test Riding Posse) - got out to see what this last storm cycle produced and were not disappointed in what they found.

Here's what Ryan had to say about it:

Flash back a week ago and forecasters were predicting a winter storm that would stay mostly to the north and miss the area we typically ride in. However, as seems to be the case with most forecasts out West, they were wrong. Extreme Northern Utah and Southern Idaho where we ride got hit with up to 30” in some locations. Not a bad start to winter considering the week before it was almost 70 degrees. We have a saying out here in the winter, “if you don’t like the weather wait five minutes.”

Having just picked up the demo 2018 Ski-Doo Freeride from StarValley Ski-Doo in Wyoming, it was obvious that conditions were off to an awesome start as we drove over the mountain passes back to our neck of the woods in Logan, Utah. One text later Lonnie and Curt were ready to go up and put down some miles on the new demo sleds which at this point include the Freeride 165 and a 2018 Polaris Pro RMK 800 155.

During this time of year you don’t travel far off the trail, unless you like broken A-Arms. However, having grown up in the area we knew a little honey hole without any rocks that we could ride wide open in the fresh unicorn snow.

While it was not middle of January conditions it certainly was epic conditions for the first week of November. The season no doubt has officially kicked off for us out West and even though it is earlier than normal we could not be more excited.

This year we will be running:
    -2018 Ski-Doo Freeride 165
    -2018 Polaris Pro RMK 800 155
    -2018 Yamaha Sidewinder 153
-2018 Arctic Cat 153 Mountain Cat or Sno Pro
-2018 Yamaha YZ450F with a 120 ARO Timbersled kit and TRIO front shock
