Blizzards are not common in Washington, D.C., and seeing a snowmobile out and about in our nation's capital is even more rare. But occasionally, Mother Nature will dump fresh powder all over the city, and in the wake of such storms, you may catch a glimpse of John Harrington riding a snowmobile around the streets of D.C. Harrington has been a freelance photographer in Washington for more than 25 years, so he's learned firsthand that members of the press have to be ready to gather the ...

    RECAP: Big Moose Shootout

Posted one year ago by Emily Hare
The ice on Big Moose Lake was a little over 22 inches thick at race time last Saturday. There was a chance of rain in the afternoon, but it was a good enough day for ice drags in Eagle Bay, N.Y. The Big Moose Inn and Duffy’s at the Glenmore, in association with Northeast Snowmobile Drag Racing (NESD), have worked very hard to get this years Big Moose Shootout off the ground, as Mother Nature has not been cooperating with event promoters. NESD was hoping for a great turnout and very few is...

RECAP: 2nd Annual Genesee Sno-Packers Bikini Rally

Posted one year ago by Emily Hare
On Saturday, Feb. 20, the temperature was 57 degrees in Oakfield, N.Y. Can you say bikini weather? The only disappointing news for the second annual Genesee Sno Packers Bikini Rally was that the warm weather translated to sledding on mud instead of a snow-covered field. The Genesee Sno Packers weren't going to let the weather stop them from raising awareness and some money for the Pink Ribbon Riders, a non-profit organization that helps men and women affected by breast cancer. The...

On Oct. 31, X Games medalist Cory Davis left his hometown of Soldotna, Alaska, in search of snow. He headed north to Summit Lake (home of Arctic Man) in the Alaska Mountain Range. Although Cory normally rides within an hour away, the nine-hour commute for an early ride was worth it. The parking lot had only six inches of snow, but after ascending 1,000 feet, Cory was relieved to find even more. Cory described the October ride as surprisingly good for this early in the season. “The perfec...
