i also heard that epping was still ago but, they weren't sure if it was going to be at petterson's farm?  that would suck.  that's the only really good track we race on.  the shootout this year is in gaylord, mi.  6 hours further then tilbury.

Grass racing is the best! I ran a car{64 plymouth fury} for 12 years and had fun, but when a buddy of mine talked me into grass racing my brand new trail sled I stumbled into the final round and took second place. I was hooked!!

It was grass racing that introduced me to some of the best people I have ever met, very competitive on the track and when the dust settles were all at one trailer drinking beers and having a blast!

I hope someone steps up in the northeast and gets us back to racing more than two or three events or I might have to sell my turds and go back to racing the fury again, I still have it.

See you in Syracuse in July!!

Terry, don't take this wrong but if you and a few others put as much effort into a couple grass events as you do asphalt it would be huge! Unfortunatly sled racing is getting spread thin with some guys going to tar! The car guys hate sleds and so do the bikes so lets get back to basics and get dirty! The grass track is ours and ours only!!

There's way to much crying about rules in grass racing but you have to give credit to Kris Bedard and cosdra they seem to be the only ones to really care about grass racing, unlike the slow death that grass racing is facing in the northeast!!

I like so many others who love the sport would like to try and do something but I can barely tune my sleds to run never mind organize a race. Hopefully someone steps up. NEGDS?? Mike Hills??

Looking forward to July to choke on some dirt!!

hey tq nothin for nothin but you need classes on the tar alot of guys dont want to run bracket (thats like kissin your sister) and cant afford a ps or outlaw plus how does a small guy beat the big guys on the tar even if you catch a good light and run a good # a guy like paul austin is buy you at the 660 and drivin away atleast in 500ft on the grass the driver can over come alot. and the whole waiting around in between rounds thats  tough the tar is growing and some day will be the way to go but for now get some dirt in the shirt an come run the grass i'll come see you cowboys on the tar good luck

i think asphalt is great for no dust and i agree with terry that good tracks are hard to find.  for me personnally i don't really want to be standing on th asphalt when it's 90 degrees outside.  atleast in the grass you can always find some shade.

I haven't been to watch any asphalt racing yet, but to me it sounds like you spend more time racing bikes and cars. Maybe I am wrong, but thats like racing a Wheelin Modified against a Sprint Cup car. To me I would much rather be running against other sleds that are in the same class as you. I also agree alot with what Matty says in the 1/4 mile most of it is taken out of the drivers hands. That is alot of the reason I personally like grass racing, you can be a 1/10th off but if you tree some one buy a 1/10th, not all the time, but most of the time you can hold them off. I also enjoy the time of year we race. Perfect temps.  Maybe someday that will be the way to go, but for now we will stick to grass.

If I wanted to race against a bike I would have built one!! I want to race against another sled with the same cc's and weight as my own, heads up to see who has the right tune up for that track on that day!

If I was going to bracket race a sled and looking to win rounds, I would run a stocker without any go fast parts so it would be consistent, not fast. Bracket racing is running the same number over and over and over! If the sled doesn't run real good you just change your dial, you don't have to be fast to win.

Grass racing is all about being the fastest or quickest that day. If your lucky to make it past the first round you need to tune, not change you dial!

Drag racing is HEADS UP side by side racing, always has been, always will be!! You don't see NHRA bracket racing on Sunday do you, I didn't think so. You don't see nascar penalize Jeff Gordan OR Dale Earnhart for breaking out or running a faster lap! I don't think so. Bracket racing, you lose for being faster than your dial, and you walk away sad and mad. If DRAG RACING and running faster than you did earlier in the day ,your a happy tuner/racer and walk away feeling real good.

I'm done for now, I need a beer!

I don't know guys I spent last summer on the asphalt and completely enjoyed it. We raced heads up all year, not bracket. Grassdrags are really in rough shape right now. The rule sitiation is a complete mess. Every time someone thinks of a way to improve their sled a rule is put in place to stop it cause someone else was upset that they didn't think of it themself. The manufactures have all but strangled the stock classes. Stock should be a step up class for entry level guys, now its a factory race class. Many tracks have closed because of expense and or size. If NEGDS (or anyone else) looked at the big picture they would unify the large tracks/races with the smaller tracks/races to make the entire series more successful. But unfortunately the promoters of each event looks only at their own event and its profit and could care less about the other events and/or look at them as competing events. I remember when there was 9 or more events a year out here, whats left now, 1 maybe 2. At 4.19 a gallon for deisel I'm sure less and less guys can afford to run out west all year to race. I know I will think twice after buying a plane ticket to the world series in Mi this winter, only to witness the same POS timing system fail miserably as usual. This is the same system that said I did 246 mph at Fenwick IN 2002!!!!!! HELLO. And Kris has still not posted the results of openmod 1000 at tilbury this past summer so I can show them to sponsors that might be willing to shell out some cash to get us back out west to race this year. As far as bracket racing, I saw a lot of guys enjoying that challenge at epping/freemont this past year. Just my 2 cents

Mark, you and Terry raced heads up last year on the tar but you also ran a sled that has what $30,000 maybe even more into it? Did you win anything? New England Dragway is the only show in the northeast and take my word for it, sleds are a thorn in there side! There so busy with special events on the weekend that you need to rent the track in the middle of the week to make some passes to tune the sled!

If your just going to bracket race why even build a hot rod sled? Just run a stocker and maybe someday you and Terry might just win one!!

I'm done, anyone looking to buy some dirt sleds?? Imp 800 1000 and a 990 twin?
