    THUNDERCAT 900 WATER PUMP??
Posted by ALPINE SPORTS RACING on Monday, November 30, 2009 6:44 AM

GOT A THUNDERCAT 900, SEEMS TO BE LEAKING COOLANT OUT OF THE WATER PUMP, DOES THIS HAPPEN ??

THE GUY SAYS HE HAS TO FILL THE RESERVOIR EVERYTIME BEFORE HE RIDES.   OR DOES IT COME FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE.  ALSO, TO REMOVE THE WATERPUMP, DO YOU HAVE TO REMOVE- OR LIFT UP THE MOTOR??

ALSO, I NOTICED THE WIRE THAT GOES TO THE TEMP SENSOR WAS OFF, SO MAYBE THE GUY HEATED UP THE MOTOR ON THE LAKE, BURNED AN ORING AND NOW IS "PUSHING" COMPRESSION INTO THE COLLING SYSTEM CAUSING THE LEAK??

    WHAT DO YAS THINK??

If it was leaking around the head " "PUSHING" COMPRESSION INTO THE COLLING SYSTEM CAUSING THE LEAK"....Does it run??? If not then the orings on the head or heads are leaking. If its the water pump, you might be able to pull the pipes, reoil, recoil housing and maybe the flywheel, to get at the pump. I don't think you have to pull the motor. One thing to check, on the spigot on the water pump that drains the coolant. There is a tiny oring on the inside of the spigot, some times I've seen guys not put it in right and tight it down as much as possible and it will leak out of the end!

    thanks

i found that the seal on the shaft that turns the impeller was leaking, into the front part of the case, the bearing on the end is all rusted, so i am thinking coolant has been going into the front part of the case then into the regular case, not good for the bearings

Triples are known for water pump leaks, dead stators and the drive bearing on the PTO side going out on them.

Wanted: Dead Arctic Cat Stators. All Types. PM Me.

Did the machine run for awhile after that or did you have to replace bearings shortly after?
