CHECKING IGNITION TIMING ON 98 XC 700
Posted by old98700 on Sunday, January 3, 2010 6:13 PM

I want to verify the ignition timing on a 98 XC 700.  I have the original spec sheet for the sled, I am inquiring the for best way to check timing.  I believe it is done with the engine running at an idle.  I can use an auxiliary battery to power an inductive timing light and use the number one (flywheel side) ignition wire  for a pulse.  Is this the correct procedure? I had to replace a defective stator and aligned the marks to the original location, however the engine should be properly timed.  What is the proper torque for the flywheel retaining nut?   Anybody have a good source for a 98 RMK 700 CDI box #2201112 or 2201162?

    Thanks
