    Polaris, what are you thinking??
Posted by addicted on Friday, May 14, 2010 1:01 PM

I am a die hard Polaris fan. I own several newer Polaris sleds, a '04 600 wheeler, & a Polaris PWC. I have always felt that Polaris is the best product & company. Now I have doubts:

I recently needed to purchase a part for my Polaris wheeler. I thought that I would drop by the dealer and look at the new stuff/ pick up my part. I traveled to my closest local dealer only to be told that they dropped the brand due to the fact that Polaris was attempting to require them to purchase to much product with little factory dating & support. I also was informed that they have tightened the warranties up to the point that if you are just days over the warranty, they refuse to work with you or the dealer. I was told that they could not get me my part or sell me any new Polaris stuff. I left thinking that my dealer of 20+ years must have had a falling out with Polaris.

Down the road I went to stop at another dealer 20 miles away. Guess what? Same story. Now, confused, I went home and figured that I would call a dealer 40 miles to the west of me and order the part. What? You also dropped the brand? Yep, another one gone. I live in Northern Wisconsin (between Park Falls & Mercer) and did some checking, over 50% of dealers within 100 miles of me are no longer carring Polaris. All the dealers I spoke to were with them for 20+ years. They all had the same stories about having to order huge amounts of inventories, high minimun parts orders, and poor warranty issues. I can hardly believe it all.

I began to think about all of this and decided to contact Polaris directly to voice my opinion on these issues. I went to the Polaris website and found the 800 number. I called it to only find that it did not work. After some searching, the only means I could find to contact Polaris was an email contact form that allowed me to describe my issue in less than 40 words or so. I am pretty disappointed in it all. Amagine the sledders that will come to Northern Wisconsin next winter only to find that they can hardly get a part to fix a new machine and they will surely have huge warranty issues. I am also frustrated over the fact that the dealers that no longer carry Polaris are all still listed on the Polaris website as dealers. They have not taken the names down. Seems pretty shady to me so far.

I will not bad mouth this with listing the exact dealers or saying not to purchase Polaris products. Everyone will have to make that choice. I will reccomend that you cantact your favorite dealer and see if they are still selling new products. You might wish to contact your dealer where you ride also.
