Posted by Indy 650 on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 7:28 PM

Looking for a baseline clutch setup for 800' - 1000' speed runs. I have a 700 Ultra improved stock (175hp),9200 rpms, speed track, lots of lightweight parts 10 tooth drivers. I was thiking something like Dark Blue OR Black/Green primary,51-53 gram weights,42/34 cam, blue secondary, 12-14lbs, 21/38 gears.

What kind of speed track? Use the Black/Green primary the Ultra doesnt like a 34 finish use start with 40/36 or 42/36. Gearing is too short and dont use 38 bottom use much smaller.

Youre going to have to do some trial and error runs - Iceman gave u some ideas. If your Ultra runs at 9,200 for peak power, you will have to get the best combo clutch setup to run for 800 to 1k feet. One thing I would check for to make sure your tach is spot on. Thats important.  As for clutching, 21/38 at 1;1 ratio is 109.19mph - I think for my opinion, thats good for a 1000 feet run. Anything shorter, Id not go smaller bottom gears, Id go higher such as 39 bottom. You may have to throw in heavier weights for better belt squeeze and lesser the angle in the secondary to keep the revs at 9,200 - less track spins is better for holeshot. Set up the GPS app on your phone .. is a perfect tool to help u reach your goal and test, test and alot of testing to find the best run for your sled. WL.

I dont know much about the ultra's, mine went 134.3mph in 1000 ft. You can do what you like, especially with the bottom gear. Polaris' dont like big bottom gears in a speedruns in my little knowledge. My Improved 87 Indy 600 went 122mph in 1000 feet. Wont tell you what I had, but neither one had bottom gears bigger than 36
