I bought an 2001 xcr 800 a couple of years ago and this thing eats motor mounts like I can eat pizza.  First thing was I replaced the bolts, those failed the first day out by way of breaking.  Next, I drilled out the puny 3/8 holes and then retapped to 7/16.  That lasted for 4 days of riding until it pulled the threads out.  So here is my ultimate fix.  I had a set of motor mount straps custom made where they go strait in the front instead of angle up. Then here is the fun part.  I cut the motor mounts off of the bulkhead.  Grind everything smooth locate holes and drill straight through the bulkhead and bolt it with a 7/16 bolt and nut.  By my calculations the only way for this to fail is if the chassis folds up like a suitcase. I will post an update after a ride.
