    YAMAHA SRX MOTOR YEAR?
    Posted by chriscringle on Saturday, January 03, 2009 11:21 PM

    I was wondering if  anyone can tell me how I would know what year motor my 700 srx has and how to check, I recently bought one . It is a 1998 yamaha srx 700 and was told the motor is a 2001. Any help would be appreciated.

    check the part # on the head.

    8dn-00 = 98/99

    8dn10 =00/01

    A wee bit of boost!

    TAKE ANOTHER TEST WITH A DEFFERENT GAUAGE. 110 psi IS DOWN. SHOULD BE 125-130 psi. HP ON THE 2001 SRX WAS 143-145. HP ON THE 98 WAS 138-140. 3:16 (yammie tony)

    yeah Its an old gauge ive used for about 10 years but the pressures all come up dead even. thank you. I'm just getting back in to sledding  the last sled I had was a 1991 yamaha phazer 2 so I'm a little behind in the times. Thanks much.

    Oh I forgot to mention , it has the boondockers nitrous kit installed do you think that maybe the compression was lowered with gaskets or such for the nitrous?

    Make sure that has 01 heads on it and not 98 if it's a 01 with 98 heads comp will be 110 different heads and did you change all wire harness that has different ing. system, cdi box .duel headlight 98 had single head alot of things to be changed to put a 01 in a 98 sled.Surprise

    I don't know what heads are on it how can you tell? I just bought it this way so I'm kinda fishing and a wishin that I didn't  get screwed. But It has a new hood with "single headlight" new seat ,new skis,new track and studs "only 96" but they help,some ,it looks like new,  needs carbs cleaned,so it idles better, but otherwise goes like hell.

    If I remember right you couldn't put the stator from a 01 in a 98 motor. Likewise I'm not sure if you could put a 98 in an 01 though. I think there was a machining difference on the crankcase. Could be wrong or mis informed. Ideal situation would be if it had the harness and stator from the 01 on it then you coild switch to the dual headlight. You could outrun the single one pretty easy as it wasn't very bright. Also could use the dual hand/thumb warmer control. I had access to the harness , cdi, controls etc. to do the swap but didn't want to change the engine so I never did it.

    YOUR CORRECT 98-99 WOULD NOT INTERCHANGE WITH 00-01-02. 8DN-10. IS CORRECT # FOR 00-01-02 HEADS. 3:16 (yammie tony)

    If you used the 01 stator and flywheel you will be ok if it is a 2001 sledGeeked

    Hi there I put a 98 srx 700 motor in my 2001 because the bottom end went on it.I am having a hard time to say the least at  trying to get the stator and flywheel to work.I have both 98 and 2001 flywheel and stator.I am trying to fab a bracket to get the trigger coil closer to the flywheel and stator of the 2001 do you no if I get it close enough if it fill run?If not is there a way to rewire the 98 stator since it seems to have alot more wires coming out of it.If none of this is possible is the crank in the 98 the same as the 2001 and will it fit in the case of the 2001.My sled is in good shape and I dont want to part it out but at the same time I am strapped for cash somewhat so I thought I could rebuild the 2001 motor buy tearing down the 98 since it was rebuilt only 600 miles ago.If not I wil pull the 98 motor out and sell it to get my money back and save for a rebuild.Your knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated .Thanks and hope to here from you soon.
