After qualifying number one, Kristin Stanley rode her way to an impressive win and a new National Speed Association Pro Stock Asphalt Sled record at the NSA Championship Points Final at New England Dragway in Epping, N.H.
It was the first series win for Stanley, of Gray, Maine, as she powered her PCS Performance Polaris to an 8.294-second pass in the second round of qualifying to win the pole for the final rounds of championship eliminations.
"What a blast," said a very happy Stanley. "We were up against some great competitors today and getting my first series win at the finals, I couldn't be happier. Setting the new national record was the icing on the cake, what a day."
"We had a solid set-up all day," continued the enthused Stanley. "The chassis and suspension worked perfectly. It was like I was on rails and we had a great tune-up."
Stanley defeated Jeff Cullen riding the Abbott's Power Equipment entry in the final and set both ends of the Pro Stock 1000cc National record with a final round clocking of 8.239 seconds at 156.21 mph.
Crew Chief and husband Phil Stanley and Kristin have been asphalt racing in the Pro Stock 1000 class for 5 years. He owns PCS Performance and the team runs a PCS asphalt suspension and chassis.
Ken Lund (Wise Man Racing) clinched the 2008 NSA Points Championship during the first round of racing on Saturday, Sept. 13, with his win over Scott Marsh (Big-E/Scooterboy Racing) in a very close race. Marsh left on Lund with a 0.090 reaction time, but Lund would get the edge over Marsh with his quicker ET.
In other first round racing action, Dan Meyer (Meyer Racing) was paired up against newcomer John Evans (B&F Racing) in what would be another close first round. Both riders had nearly identical reaction times, but Meyer would take the round win this day.
Congratulations also go out to Kevin Zucco (Zucco Racing) and Travis Merrill (Chuckaroo Motorsports) on their semi-final finish.
To put a period on a great day of racing, Rich Daly made an excellent pass on his Dynoport Pro Stock during the first round of qualifying - 157.69 mph. Unfortunately, Daly was not able to back this up as a new National record, but 157 mph is an awesome number for a Pro Stock 1000cc sled at 650 lbs.
