Snowmobile clothing manufacturer, Klim USA, recently won Apparel Magazine's 2008 All Star Award for their innovation in creating a snowmobile clothing niche that focused on durability and comfort.
Apparel Magazine, a leading business-to-business magazine for apparel and apparel retail executives, honored Klim USA and other winners during a ceremony at Apparel's Tech Conference at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, New York.
The winners were chosen through nominations by industry leaders and then by the Apparel editorial staff's criteria of: innovation, excellence in management, a strong track record of growth and corporate goodwill.
"Of particular note were the efforts made by this year's winners to truly perfect their particular niche of the apparel industry through a winning combination of updating technology and improving product," said Jordan Speer, editor in chief of Apparel, in a press release about the award.
Klim USA created this niche by asking workers about what they would like to see in the industry, and this led to the realization of a need for snowmobiling clothing.
"Early on, we noted how outmoded the first snowmobile clothing was," said John Summers, marketing manager for Klim USA, in a press release about Klim's role in the industry.
According to a press release, Klim USA partnered with GORE-TEX to create comfort mapping clothing that was water resistant and more up to date with technology.
"A lot of people who don our gear compare it to wearing pajamas-it just doesn't feel like you have anything on. To put it another way, if you don't notice your clothing, that is a good thing. And when you do notice it, it usually means you're cold, wet, too warm, or uncomfortable," said Summers, in the press release.
