Ski-Doo's rider is 1st to win X-Games' gold

Joe Parsons received the first gold medal of the ESPN Winter X-Games in Aspen, Colo for the Speed and Style snowmobile event, according to a BRP press release.

Parsons is a former snocross racer turned freestyle athlete competing in his second X-Games, after just turning 21 on Thursday.

"He showed great poise in a head-to-head duel with the event favorite to claim his win and put Ski-Doo on the top spot to start the Games," BRP representative said.

Speed and Style combined snocross-style racing with freestyle tricks: 50% of the score is based on race time; the other 50% is based on judges scores for the competitor's freestyle tricks.
