Crapo takes Pro-Super Stock and Gulla comes back for Pro Open win at AMSOIL

With Tucker Hibbert missing from the picture, Shaun Crapo won the Pro-Super Stock at AMSOIL Championship SnoCross Series on February 14 in Farmington, N.Y, according to an AMSOIL press release.

Polaris rider TJ Gulla set the pace when he grabbed the holeshot. Polaris pilots Shaun Crapo and New York native Brett Bender were riding close to Gulla.

"Setting a blistering pace, Gulla edged out to a comfortable margin early and began to encounter lap traffic in the 15-sled field by lap six," AMSOIL's representative said.

The track was condensed due to warm temperatures and rain earlier in the week and this created a tighter playing surface.

While Gulla and Crapo fought for first, a battle for third place started with Garth Kaufman (Arctic Cat), Bender, and Levi LaVallee (Polaris) tailing in search of clean track.

After the halfway point Kaufman hammered the back straight triple to overtake Bender's lead. Four laps later, LaVallee mimicked Kaufman's pass and sent Bender to fifth.

"I was trying to race clean," said LaVallee, "he's (Bender) a teammate so I wanted to make a good pass. I was waiting for him to make a mistake but he was running strong. By the time I got around him the leaders had gotten away from me."

With less than three laps to go, Gulla lost his place on the podium when he got tangled up with Polaris rider Matt Judnick.

"I feel bad for TJ," said Crapo as he stood atop the podium during post race ceremonies. "He deserves to be here. But our team has been working so hard for this, and this weekend we finally were in a position to take advantage of mistake and it paid off."

Polaris rider TJ Gulla came back from the Pro-Super Stock to win the Pro Open on February 15.

"There was a fire brewing Sunday afternoon as the Pro Open final field came to the line for the showcase race of the Arctic Cat Eastern Nationals at the Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack facility," AMSOIL's representative said.

Gulla got the holeshot and led the sleds down the front stretch, with a five second lead over Ryan Simons (Arctic Cat).

Polaris rider Levi LaVallee was in third with Brett Turcotte (Arctic Cat) in the fourth slot.

Gulla showed no sign of slowing down, and this left a battle for the remaining podium positions.

"I had something to prove today," said Gulla after the race. "Last night was my fault... I wanted to win today and win by a lot."

Simons was equally happy with his results, specifically holding off the multiple attempts of LaVallee to make a pass. "I lost my brakes at the end of the race," said Simons. "I had to do everything I could to block off Levi and keep him behind me."

Semi-Pro

Cory Davis left the Arctic Cat Eastern Nationals in Farmington, N.Y. with double wins in the Semi-Pro class, according to a Team Arctic press release.

"Davis did his magic double in Semi Pro Super Stock and Open," Team Arctic spokesperson said.

Davis came from last place to first place in a single lap during the Semi-Pro Open.

"Starting from the back row of the 16-sled field, Davis combined a race savvy start and a turn one tangle to catapult his Arctic Cat to the front of the field," AMSOIL representative said.

"I was hoping if I started on the inside (of the back row) the leaders would push wide and they did," said Davis from atop the podium. "That put me in position to take advantage of the first turn crash and allowed me to get to the front."

Arctic Cat's Dan Ebert charged from a seventh place melee to a third place finish in the Semi Pro Open, according to a Team Arctic press release.

Another comeback story was with Tim Tremblay (Ski-Doo), who went from a tenth place shuffle to a second place podium position.

In Semi-Pro Super Stock, Tremblay pulled the holeshot.

"But the speed of Davis proved too much for the Ski-doo racer from Quebec, as Davis shot past Tremblay on just the third lap of the 14-lap final," AMSOIL representative said.

Behind them it was Derek Ellis (Polaris) from Clayton, Idaho completing the podium
