Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs closes trails

The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs has closed the provincial snowmobile trails for the season, and is warning snowmobilers not to trespass on clased trails or private property, according to an OFSC press release.

This closure means that grooming operations have ceased, regional trail connections are shut down, gates are locked and signs are being taken down.

The snow coverage on most trails has disappeared or deteriorated to unsafe conditions. In addition, all ice is now becoming too unstable to support a sled or has melted.

Spring run off and flooding is underway making the trails unsafe.

"The OFSC also cautions snowmobilersthat off-trail locations or conditions are now unsafe for riding, including roads and open
fields," OFSC representative said in press release.

For snowmobilers looking for one more ride clubs in Northern Ontario are reporting limited opportunities available.  Check www.ofsc.on.ca before heading out for updates on trail safety.
