Arctic Cat upgrades new 2010 Sno Pro 500

Racer-based snowmobile gets racier treatment, price increases

Arctic Cat has announced a major upgrade to its 2010 Sno Pro 500 snowmobile, which is based on its successful snocross race sled.

The Sno Pro 500 will now use the actual Sno Pro 600 race sled's slide action skid frame in place of the previously announced slide action skid, which is the one used in all Cat Twin Spar chassis. Cat says the change was made because most buyers said they were going to use the Sno Pro 500 to race on the cross country or snocross circuits. A Cat spokesman tells AmSnow that this assures those racers of having a race-proven skid for racing or heavy-duty ditch banging.

The result is the price also increases. The 2010 Sno Pro 500 will now list at $8,299 instead of the original $7,995 price.

The only difference between the race sled and the Sno Pro 500's rear suspension now is its shocks and springs. That means the front arm, idler arm, pull rods, pivot arm, rear arm, rails, coupling system, and rear axle are those designed for snocross and cross-country racing. The front arm shock is a Fox IFP similar to the one provided on the F-series Sno Pro package as well as the Fox 2-inch diameter body rear arm shock.

Cat tells us that if a Sno Pro 500 buyer wants snocross calibration with compression and rebound adjustability, the buyer can purchase the same shocks and springs used on the 600 race sled.
