USCC starts an Eastern snowmobile circuit

The United States Cross-country Snowmobile Racing Association announced at its' planning meeting the addition of an Eastern circuit for 2010, according to a USCC press release.

"The wait is over for Eastern racers hungry to race the woods, lakes and ditches against the clock," said a USCC representative.

The USCC East will be overseen by USCC President Pat Mach and run by a group local to the region.

The schedule will consists of four races and the Red Lake I-500. The USCC and the USCC East will share two points races in Munising, Mich. and the Red Lake I-500.

Tentative events include ones in Maine, New Hampshire and New York.

"We had a lot of guys out East who said they want to race crosscountry but just cannot make the drive out every week and that's
understandable," said USCC President Pat Mach. "We looked into starting an Eastern circuit and found some guys who wanted to run it so we made it happen."

The two division will operate independently and have their own points championships.

"The big thing we're hoping for with having two circuits is getting the numbers up for the Red Lake I-500," said Mach. We'd like to get back to the days when there were 200 or even 300 riders in that race. Also, we're pegging the Munising race as sort of an East/West shootout like they have in Supercross."

In other news, the USCC hired Chad Colby to be their new Marketing Director.

"Chad has been with us from the beginning as a racer," said USCC President Pat Mach. "He knows what we're about and is well respected with our racers. We couldn't have asked for a more capable and experienced person to take over the Marketing duties for the USCC."

Colby has raced snowmobiles for over a decade on two different brands.  He lives in Morton, Illinois with his wife Ginger and step-daughter Amber.

"I figured it was time to give something back to the sport that has given me so much," said Colby. "I've been with the USCC since the beginning when we were such a small group, the series has grown so much over the past 7 years. We have a lot of NEW things planned for the 2009-2010 season for both our racers & sponsors, I'm looking forward to the new challenge."

Colby has taken over marketing duties for the USCC, but he will continue to serve as host for "Track side with Chad Colby."
