Maine proposes snowmobile fee hike

A Maine state representative has proposed a snowmobile registration fee increase by $5, according to the Maine Public Broadcasting Network.

The bill received initial endorsements from the Maine House when it was introduced by Rep. Herbert Clark on May 13, according to the Maine PBN.

If the increase is approved a snowmobile registration fee would go from $35 to $40.

This money would go to the Snowmobile Trail Fund, which distributes funding to develop, construct and groom snowmobile trails.

Moosehead Riders President Tom McCormick, a local Maine snowmobile club, said he supports the bill because of the additional funding that will be given to the individual clubs.

According to McCormick, clubs are having a hard time raising funds for their clubs this year and this money would help fill that gap.

The bill is still in hearings and has yet to be voted on, according to McCormick.
