Klim, a snowmobile apparel and accessories company, has started a campaign to fight the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection act which would close most riding areas in the Intermountain Northwest, according to an e-mail from Klim.

"We have set up a site that makes it very easy for people to send emails to the appropriate representative. They simply need to enter their zip code and the system will automatically help them send e-mails to the correct place. There is info on the bill at the link and also a way to find the contact info for all representatives if they want to place a call or write a letter as well," said Scott Tomlinson in the e-mail.

The H.R. 980 bill would designate 23 million acres of land in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming as wilderness. Due to this classification, these acres would be permanently off-limits to motorized recreational vehicles.

"As responsible outdoor enthusiasts and riders, we need to join forces to oppose this legislation which would essentially close the majority of currently used riding areas in the Intermountain Northwest and would set an ugly precedent for other riding areas around the country. We need your help in taking action to defeat H.R. 980 so this land-grabbing cycle does not continue," according to a Klim press release.

New York state Representative Carolyn Maloney has sponsored this bill every year since 1993.

Klim's spokesperson said, in the press release, the bill threatens the use of public lands by snowmobilers throughout the country.
