Maine passes $5 hike in snowmobile registration fees

Maine's Gov. John Baldacci has recently signed a bill that will increase snowmobile registration fees by $5, according to the Seacoastonline.com.

The registration fee will increase from $35 to $40, and the money will go to the Snowmobile Trail Fund.

However, the new law will not affect nonresidents' fees.

As previously reported on AmSnow.com, the bill received initial endorsements from the Maine House when it was introduced by Rep. Herbert Clark.

Moosehead Riders President Tom McCormick, a local Maine snowmobile club, said he supported the bill because of the additional funding that would be given to the individual clubs.

According to McCormick, clubs were having a hard time raising funds for their clubs, and this money would help fill that gap.
