Polaris Makes Final Changes To 2010 Snowmobile Lineup

Last week the Editors here at AmSnow had a meeting with the snowmobile brains at Polaris and we were filled in on several late breaking changes that are being made for this upcoming 2010 model year.

Most importantly, the 700 RMK 155-inch mountain sled will return to the lineup. Popular demand from the dealer and consumer precluded this decision and fills a price point AND horsepower level between the 600 and 800 RMK. The 700 is simply a base model and not in the upgraded 'Dragon' trim. It will sell for  $9,799 US/$11,999 CA.

Lead poisoning has also been a contentious issue lately with the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) and the youth model snowmobiles. In order to comply with overly stringent CPSC guidelines regarding lead concentration levels in motorsport vehicles marketed towards the youth segment, Polaris has put together a compliance up-date kit for all 120s remaining in dealer inventory. The kits will be shipped this summer and include bushings, grease zerks, hex nuts, spacer, cables and fasteners.

In addition to these changes, it has been decided by Polaris brass to ship the new 600 Rush snowmobiles with the low black windshield included. Previously it had been stated that the sleds would ship without a windshield and the consumer would have the option of what size to buy at his or her dealer. Furthermore, the mid and tall 'snow-check' windshields that were ordered will not be clear, but will instead be smoke colored.

Finally, the Assault IFS front shocks have been changed. Originally, the Assault was slated to come with Walker Evans air piggyback shocks, but those have been nixed and the Assault will get the upgraded Walker Evans coil over needle shocks. The needle shocks are highly adjustable and better in extremely rough terrain and on hard landings.
