Dustin Shoemaker is just a normal guy, but when his 2-month old daughter, Hannah, was diagnosed with a rare liver disease he decided to do something extraordinary. He founded a charity, Helping Hands for Hannah, in conjunction with the American Liver Foundation.
Dustin's snowmobiling mission is to break the world record for most miles traveled on a sled in 24 hours. But his personal mission is to build awareness and funding for billiary atresia by taking pledges and donations. The cause of this very rare bile duct disease is still unknown.
The new world record attempt will take place on Big St. Germain Lake on Feb. 9-10, with staging at Fibbers restaurant. Sponsors include HMK, Ski-Doo, Hillers Pine Haven, Hiawatha Motor Inn, Happy Trails RV, SoftWear Systems and Burandt's Backcountry Adventures. Pledge sheets will be available at Fibbers and other area locations, or you can donate to a fund set up at US Bank under Hannah Shoemaker Benefit. Call Dustin for exact donation details or to get involved, at 217-821-0480. Dustin will also have a Web page on www.radarracers.com soon.
