 Never Been to this event , So - Are these "Stock" sleds Tech-ed before they run?

 The sleds are brought to DTR for dyno certification, making sure the engines are producing the proper stock HP and fuel flow on Monday/ tuesday. Then the sleds are locked in trailers by George Taylor who has the only keys until the day of the Shootout. But because we only had two Cats in the Unlimited Stock class we didn't do that. So we got hosed temporarily.

So enlighten us --what was done to this sled ??? I would LOVE to know !!

What did the srx in 2001 run for an ET? Oh yeah...I think I know who the Yammmie dealer was then too...and it may be familiar.

Without getting too into this as I am sure it is a delicate matter....did anyone at least open the hood to visually inspect things like the Y pipe, and stock single pipe? Maybe they are hidden on that model, but if you can make a stock appearing xfire run that good there will be a lot of takers.Would they have had big enough nads to throw a 1200 in it? or was it just a ported, timed 1000 which could probably approach 190 horsepower since the y pipe and timing key make in the 180 range.

This one will get a lot of looks....

Jim the only way you screwed up as that you trusted someone everyone knows how hard you work at this....shame on them.I would love to see the et slips of a grass drag where all the "honest" racers were told there would be no tech but since you know these racers they are expected to stick to the rules....what a joke that would be.

Well, this is pretty embarrassing for the tech guys at the track, me being one of them. I saw some stock sleds coming to the line minus the coupler blocks. Coupled sleds usually aren't standing on the rear bumper with the blocks left in. Sleds in dealer prep came back to the line with no blocks at all or the plastic square part of the block removed and just the aluminum spacer and bolt left. I wasn't sure if this is allowed and should have brought it to Jim's attention right away. I figured these were minor suspension adjustments with guys trying to get a hold of the worsening starting line. I'm still unsure of the rules on that. I will take personal responsibility for the lack of tech for the stock sleds on my part. The shootout format was tweaked slightly this year for the stock and dealer prep portion of the shootout where the times were averaged to cut down on guys making the factory stockers run like a turd and then run much better in dealer prep. Next year if I'm asked again to help, I will go over the AC sleds much more closely since I'm more familiar with that brand. I feel terrible for Dynotech Jim, George Taylor, and Mark Boncher from American Snowmobiler. They tried to put on a great event that gets tarnished by cheating. Blame the tech guys, which is what I was there to help with. Jim, George, and Mark Boncher have enough responsibilities on race day. I was there to tech and let them down. I'm going to make some recommendations for next years tech so there isn't a repeat offense.  For those who attended and for all involved, I'm truly sorry I failed on my part. It won't happen again!

Billy, don't be so hard on yourself. There should be a little bit of trust involved in this shootout, but unfortunately thats no longer the case, thanks to BIG MOOSE ARCTIC CAT!! Undoubtedly this will cost them WAY more than they think they gained by this slippery business.

Yes he got (caught) but what about all the other times when sleds where so called (dealer preped) and things where changed like ignition boxs, exhaust system mods to increase hp and those people where not caught, I feel STRONGLY about fair runs for all the sleds, thats why me and my brother where up at the starting line shoveling the 60' all day by hand so they would all have a fair start for all.Teching these sleds is a tough job Bill, so to keep this from happening again i would do away with dealer prep, let face it you will not be able to get some of those add-ons anyway they come straight from they race dep. I SAY LETS  DYNO ALL STOCK SLEDS,SEAL THE HOOD AND HAVE THEM MAKE TWO BOX STOCK RUNS, IF THE HOOD NEEDS TO BE OPENED FOR ANY REASON HAVE A TECH THEIR TO UNSEAL THE HOOD AND RESEAL THE HOOD CLOSED. What is DEALER-PREP ANYWAYS who can bend the rules the most with out getting caught. It also would make a ALL THE AFTERMARKET SHOPS ADD-ONS LOOK MORE IMPRESIVE BECAUSE I REMEMBER ALOT OF TIMES WHEN THE STOCK DEALER PREPED SLEDS WHERE FASTER THAN THE MODS, YOU CAN EVEN ASKED RICH DAILY WHO ALWAYS WONDERS HOW FAST THE STOCKERS WILL GO AFTER DEALER PREP, IF HE DOES NOT BEAT THE STOCKER AFTER DEALER PREP.OR ITS CLOSE HE WILL SELL LESS PRODUCT. I WOULD BE GLAD TO HELP YOU OUT JIM FOR NEXT YEAR EVENT TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN.

I'm glad I dont take this shoot-out as seriously as some.....Bill you did a fine job.....every race there is some sort of drama.....dont worry about it....you can always look us up in the parking lot and have a beer! thats where the real fun is!!

Don't know a lot about this event however I do know that these 09 XFR 1000's are damn fast stock.  They were running 5.1-5.3's in the grass with very little testing and just strapping them down.  This was in the stock class and they were run through tech.  Do the math most 1000IMP run 4.8-4.9's with 260hp range.

The XFR's have one hell of a power to weight ratio and what was the difference in rider weights between all of the sled's?

The one thing I choose not to believe is the reasoning that the stock turbo should beat the stock xfr. I have heard various reports on the actual hp of these sleds with the turbo as low as 175-177 and the xfr 165-170 so power to weight to me just does not cut it IMO. Now take from all acounts of anyone who has both these sleds and has been out running them as they have up nord the out of the box stock turbo will not beat the out of the box stock xfr in that race. Now comparing them to modded sleds that are suppose to be 190'ish that does raise a spokian eyebrow that is for sure.

First I just want to say that I do not regret doing what was done. Kirsh said it, the ski-doo and polaris shops have cheated for years and I just played their game. For years we have been participating in an event that was ours to loose. All the time and money that Phil and Jon put into this, for one award, that was always going to be "won" in ski-doo country. Not to mention the 800 polaris that did a wheel stand, that everyone is talking about,  that was caused by pre-stock run tinkering. Now we got a new mag and new awards. Amsnow made it fun again to participate. George and Jim called us at the last minute and said we were running an F6 and a cfr 800 against the rest of them and our Z1 and Cfr1000 in an exhabition class all by ourselves. I thought this is a way to make AC look good no matter what sleds faster. (Z1 or CFR1000)  I would like to say that cheating is such a bad choice of words, I didn't cheat the competition, I was the competition.
