steve, what Im getting out of things is, there racesled class is prostocks/openmods and anything that is a full race sled and there will be no  min weight......I dont know why they wont just say that? but they keep saying "outlaw race's" witch I take to mean run what you brung. they will just split you up by your cc's

please let me know if Im wrong. tom

Hello Tom & Clarky we are looking at some way to keep the classes to 12 or so we are looking at weither we need to separate the cc sleds by weights or just run them by there cc.

Let us know what you all think we should do.

Hi Tim... how long is your track with shut down.. I was told 1200 feet if thats true that is not long enough for our sleds, let me know so I can decide if we will come.. our sleds need at least 1800 to 2000 and that is tight..

Re: Outlaw Ice Drags Port Huron INTERESTING ICE FACTS!!!JUST FYI ALL

Jim the track is 1800 know. I step it off myself at 600 steps that means 1800 at least as usually I am light on the measurement. That was a misprint by Tim. I have stepped it off 3 times. Then.Today  I am going to meet Tim and going to Layout a 40ft wide plus another 200ft just in case Route. I am Leaving for Gaylord this morning to make Ice all week with Cory. This track without the extra Shutdown is exactly the same lenght as last years track in Gaylord. If I would have stepped it off any less then I would of made it a 500 ft race.

Thats good info . I had the same stuff except how many Sq ft it all calibrated out to.

Maybe somebody can answer/guesstimate this.

How much additional ice do you make per day when its under a foot of snow.

We had a good solid 8"of ice before the 1 ft snow hit about a week ago & another 4" of snow  on the way by Wednesday. The weather report has been cold since this snow hit & is nothing but continued cold as far out as they project.  We won't even attempt to plow before this weekend. So what I'm trying to calculate is how thick the ice should be if it was 8"  & now 10 days later with over a foot of snow on top the new reasonable # is ???

Thanks,

MMR

Re: Outlaw Ice Drags Port Huron INTERESTING ICE FACTS!!!JUST FYI ALL

You need to get the snow off the ice as soon as possible ...

We have some of the best ice temps coming all through MI.    Wed. through at least Sun.

Exposed Ice without windchill factor @ 10degrees F. or below will produce 1" of ice to the bottom of existing ice every day.

1foot of snow will not allow much additional freezing at all, it acts as an insulator.

Tim, is there somewhere on the internet you got this info ? Our usual plow guy moved and although we now have two plow trucks now instead of one,  our experienced lake ice expert is gone. MMR

Re: Outlaw Ice Drags Port Huron INTERESTING ICE FACTS!!!JUST FYI ALL

Craig, try this Ice Engineering by the US Army Corps of Engineers document.  Here is the link.

http://www.crrel.usace.army.mil/ierd/tectran/ieieb13.pdf

A lot of the document is very technical, but provides reliable information.  There is a good table on page 3 "Minimum Thickness of Ice to Support a Load".  Table 1 gives a guideline for the amount of area to clear to support the expected load for the event based on ice thickness.

It is important to pay particular attention to the type of ice that is under the snow.  If nothing else as much of the snow should be removed as possible.....move it to land if possible.  The weight factor of the snow plays a significant role in the condition of the ice under it and is often forgotten when weight for safe ice is calculated.

Snow is an insulator, that is why the eskimos used to use for their igloos.....whatever ice is under the snow is preserved and new, better ice is slow to form.  Ice formation requires surface contact with the atmosphere, snow is a barrier to that formation.

Good luck.
