Well I believe that if you choose a profession that brings you into a union that provides you with a retirement that you have earned you should receive it. Since I owned a union company I am pretty familiar with their policies in the construction industries, but not the UAW. Construction unions usually have funds that they control for benefits and pensions that are insured in case companies go out of business or get in trouble. Negotiations happen between the unions, companies and organization such as NECA which is the National Electrical Contractors Association to resolve issues and make policy. Just as an example our union had fund invested with Benard Madoff Sucurities. This guy eligibly embezzled billions of dollars. The union had these fund insured so pensions are not lost. Moneys are all under union control and that is there job to protect the members. From what I know of the UAW and correct me if I am wrong, there is no union controlled pension fund and now the auto makers have no money. What happens if they go under? Does the employee get shafted as the airline workers did? How can the UAW control the auto industry from not paying? Also if the auto makers have no fund for pensions, where is the money coming from for the retirees? I hope not from new vehicle sales. Seems to me that the UAW should have taken more control of the funds if this is the case. Jim

 JIM, I CAN,T ANSWER YOU BECAUSE I DON,T KNOW. I DO KNOW IN 2010, THE UAW MEMBERS HEATLH CARE WILL NO LONGER BE PAID BY THE COMPANY. UAW WILL TAKE OVER. NOW AS FARR AS PENSIONS. WE BEEN TOLD. IF THESE COMPANIES GO OUT OF BUSINESS  I GUESS ITS WHAT SOME SMART AUTO EXPERT POSTED HERE '' GAME OVER ''. WE ALSO BEEN TOLD  IF GOVERMENT TAKES OVER IT COULD STILL CONTROL PENSION FUND OR WHATS LEFT OF IT. PENSIONS COULD ALSO BE CUT OR DOWNSIZED. Hey Parker.............for years, and I'm sure you heard it too, how many guys did you listen to bragging how they did just that over at New Process Gear (Magna)? They coulda filmed that whole sequence in McShane's parking lot and any other bar within ten miles of the plant. It's bad enough to do it, but even worse to brag about it and then cry when the bottom falls out. Jim, I'm with you on the union administering the pension and benefits program. Our guys in the elevator constructors are the same way. It's not tied to the companies. The companies pay into it, but they do not hold the money or administer anything. The elevator business is so much easier to police too, you have a set amount of time that it should take to do a job. Couple jobs in a row you tank, someone is watching you. Get caught drinking at lunch.........you are terminated, end of story, and the union will back the employer. Same with our safety program, you violate it, the union will back the employer. The UAW has a lot of good people I am sure, but it is riddled with corruption, laziness, and theives, from top to bottom. The free ride is over.

When Fisher Guide went out, Diamond Dolls just about closed.  That place was JUMPING from 10am to 2pm , and then the afterwork crowd wandered in at 3:30.  A Strip club that opened at 9am!!!

They were definately in the right place. Same as all the joints on Wolf Street.

WOW,  what a war, You know guys - its not only the 3 BIG that is taking all the downfall of it all. I have to say I blame alot of it all on the CEO's because they are the ones that is doing everything all so wrong. Look at it this way, the reason it all got started because of the price of gas went thru the roof. No one even knew it was coming and it affected everyone at every angles. Everything's affected ... the banks, big mfger's, small businesses ...... everything. I work for the state of NY and here we have this idiot governor Patterson who wants to hold our 3% raise, and wants us to give up one week lag pay. I mean, look at this way, its always the higher ups looking to cut and affect us small people like myself. And the sad part of it all, its alot of us small people while all the BIG SHOTS are the one is messing up and who pays the price? WE ARE! I think its about time, we get those stupid ***holes with big degrees, with BIG ideas and they dont even know how to run the world. This world is very corrupted and we need to get those people out of there and righten up the ship once again. NO CEOs need to make that kind of money and needless to say, I dont believe any NY Yankees top players should be worth to make that kind of money either.

   Its not just the CEOs. Its not just the UAW. Its almost EVERY SINGLE PERSON that resides here.

#1.) Politicians. We have no one to blame but us. We vote them in. WE allow them to get away with

      MURDER. Well Ted Kenedy, at least. And Hillary. LOL

#2.) CEOs.   We buy their product, to substantiate their salaries. Our dollars can hobble or help a company. Case in point?  Exxon.  There wasnt a busy station around, once they announced that 40Million dollar bonus for the CEO.  Our dollars at work.  Everyone spent their money elsewhere. They took a BIG hit, compared to their competitors. 

#3.)  Outsourcing.   WE  continue to buy their product with less and less DOMESTIC content. If we abstain from purchasing , it will dictate their course. When we buy Hyundais because they are $20 cheaper, we seal our own fate.  We tell the world we dont care about the environment, employees, etc. all because we chase the bottom dollar.   Just like buying tools. If we ONLY bought Harbor Freight tools, how could Snap On, Mac, Craftsman, Husky, etc. exist? Unless they went to China to compete.

Guys, its OUR fault. No one wants to admit that WE are to blame. Not CEOs, Not Politicians.  WE CONTROL THEM, IF WE DO OUR JOB.  We arent doing that.  When is the last time someone wrote their Congressman? Senator? Hell, even talked to your local Mayor, or County Legistlator ?

   NOTHING gets done, unless its an issue to them. It becomes an issue when YOU GET VOCAL.  Whether its your Walmart store manager, or your Governor. They wont act until pressured.

Has anyone seen a listing of the vehicles with their DOMESTIC content. Not North American content. US content.  North America includes Canada and Mexico. I am looking for  DOMESTIC CONTENT ONLY.

Shock Doc, youre absolutely right, and sometimes, theres not much of a choice who we can get to vote in for. The problem is, ok   let me say this, how can we vote in to be the president. What if I want to VOTE you but you dont have what it takes to become one - first you need money, and you need alot of people to support you to get you where u need to go in. If you dont have the money and you dont have the people to back you, youre next to nothing just like millions of others of people. I know exactly what youre saying, we should be having the power and we should be the one in control, and sad thing is - we dont have the power or the control like we think we do. All those politicians are in the world of their own (not all, but some) They are thinking for themselves. Like for an example, like Hillary - she cant even stay in NY long enough to be doing what she is supposed to do. If I was to be anything to help this great country, I would promise one thing, I do NOT work for myself, I work for you all great AMERICANS and thats the way it should be and besides, is that why you vote me in?     WL.
