March 7th Cable, Wisconsin Lake Namakagon Weinie Roast

March 7th Cable, Wisconsin; Lake Namakagon Weinie Roast

I’ve been talking to PC and thought I would give everyone an update. The Lakewood’s weinie roast, speed run and outlaw drags will be on March 7th. 1000’ speed runs on shaved ice with the Salzman’s from Winterfest back running the race with their timing system. PC and others have requested the outlaw drags on ice following the speed runs again. What do you think about that? Should we try this again? Should we keep simple with two classes 1000cc and under and 1000cc and up?

Last year we tried to organize snow drags, unfortunately the majority of the snow drags took place on the stick trail instead of the designated track area. This year they’ve already groomed a hardpack snow track running alongside the speed run track. This will not be organized, it will just be a safer environment for people to race their sleds as an alternative to the stick trail.

Hey Matt, we're looking forward to coming.  This is one of our favorite events, the iron gets bigger every year!!

I think the snow track next to the ice track will help keep the racing a litte more sane.  On the stick trail you get some guys lining up that have'nt graduated from lake racing 101 yet.

 see you there,

This will be non-sanctioned but we do follow ISR guidelines.  You should be able to do anything you want to the stock clutching and gearing. Matt

Re: March 7th Cable, Wisconsin Lake Namakagon Weinie Roast

Hello Matt

If you were to have 660' drags on shaved ice under ISR ruling, we would have 7 dragsleds there. I would think if you were to have the drag events you would want to run the classes like they do at the series, Stock, Imp Stock, Pro Stock, and Open in the different cc categories. I think it would attract allot of racers from Wisconsin and the surrounding states. A big plus would be the fact that you already have the equipment there to build the 1000' speedrun track. I know one thing that would be very beneficial to the sport in Wisconsin is for the clubs to unitize on the distance and the rules. 1000' speedruns and 660' drags. The distances are all over the board no matter where you go. If you build a dragsled to the ISR rules it would be nice to have a place to run them other than once a year in Michigan. Just my .02

 See you at the roast

Re: March 7th Cable, Wisconsin Lake Namakagon Weinie Roast

It sure would make it easier on the weekend warriors !! With races dwindling in our area every year i am forced to travel to Wisc and it seems every race has a different distance 500 ft drags one weekend 660 the next..With work and traveling time it's hard to get the sleds set up for the different distances..I don't have a crew that wrenches on my 3 sleds so it makes it hard to go to these events !! Would be nice to have the same rules and distances so we don't spend time working on the sleds and just racing them instead !! JMHO

Re: March 7th Cable, Wisconsin Lake Namakagon Weinie Roast

Skinner, we have raced sanctioned drag racing for years and unfortunately watched in slowly die.  We would like nothing more than to see sanctioned ice drag racing back bigger than ever!  However the Weinie Roast has always been a speed run and the people from Winterfest are putting this one on.  The drag racing on the side has always been for fun and considered outlaw racing.  If we could get enough support for ice drag racing perhaps we could look at something like that for next year, ice drags on Saturday and Speed Runs on Sunday?  But for now at least we have a place to run and drag our ice sleds.  Thanks for your input...I will post next year to see if we have people interested in a formal drag race; I would love to see this sport back.  For now...bring up your iron and let's have some fun!  ~Matt Quigley

Re: March 7th Cable, Wisconsin Lake Namakagon Weinie Roast

Hey Everyone,

Just a quick update...I talked to PC from Lakewoods today.  Here are a few ideas; We are looking at a 1000' shaved track with 2000' of shut down for the speed run.  They are working on trying to get more shut down.  Also looking at reserving a time frame for the top speed of the day maybe between 11am-Noon with a special lane reserved just for that class.  We are hoping to set some records this year.  During the course of the day they will take registration for the outlaw drags; king of the ice class which will follow the speed run about 3pm.  This will just be a name in the hat bracket 660' race on the timers; run what your brung and hope it's enough.  As far as the outlaw snow (unorganized racing) goes PC received a visit from the local law enforcement.  They really want PC to help organize and police the snow drags on the stick trail.  PC does not want this liability but he is going to have a nice groomed hard pack track running alongside the speed run track for anyone who wants to hard pack race.  We are really hoping (but not enforcing) people to use this track versus the stick trail.

I can't wait to see everyone.  It's been a long year and of course this is my favorite event.  It's nice to see the support ~Matt Quigley

This is my 1st time to the weenie roast and bringing up some race iron!

You said it!    "make the track and i bet the fast sleds will show"

We need to get everyone together and figure out how we can come up with a one length track that everyone will be happy with, race, and have fun!  1,000 ft, 660 ft, 500 ft, a lot of these guys can't keep all that clutching, jetting and gearing on hand.

Re: March 7th Cable, Wisconsin Lake Namakagon Weinie Roast

Was Johnny Law giving Lakewoods a hard time?

I hope they don't bother us, it would have a very negitve impact on the lake's economy in future years weenie roasts.

There aren't all that many reasons to go to Cable, WI unless you have a ton of fast sleds meeting there, with a place to have some good old lake racing.

I just don't think the hot dogs will draw the same crowd!

660ft for ice drags (4 lanes) and 1,000ft speed runs (1 pass at a time of course)

The snow drags are nice for anyone that wants to play

The snow drags are the highlight of the weenie roast, always have been, some of the biggest fastest iron around are always there, including the little Saint Germain crew. The speed run is a close second though.
