8th Annual Trucks-R-Us Pro Sled Shootout Inside Scoop

Before I get into the meat of things I'd like to make a couple of comments on the thread that Ron started a few weeks ago.

When I first took over the promotion (and swamp draining) of ESTA in 2001, Mike Hills came to me with an idea for a race. I said to get the sponsors together and we can do it. And that he did. The race turned into the Richest and Biggest asphalt sled race in the country. Great job Mike. Then Mike retired.

Last winter I'm determined to not let the race die. I start calling around looking for sponsors when I dialed Rich Daley's number. He said "Vern, I know everybody. Let me see if I can help you." That's how Rich got rooked into the deal. The race lives and is still the richest and biggest with last years Shootout weekend paying out over $24,800.00 awarded in cash and prizes. Great job Rich (and me).  Please don't retire.

Mike Key at Extreme Exposures has a great looking tri-fold flyer pretty much ready to go. For maximum exposure I'd like to get some of the major sponsors logos on this flyer. If you have intentions of promoting your business at this year's Shootout, you won't want to miss out on the flyer. I'd like to get it out by around the first of May. We don't need the money at this time but we do need your commitment and logo. Logo and links on the ESTA site are included in this years deal. Remember that 100% of the sponsor money goes into the prize money. Nobody is getting rich on it.

John Wilbur and Trucks-R-Us in Central Square are on board as title sponsor again this year. Trucks-R-Us has been one of the major sponsors of the Shootout since it began earlier this century. John is a big supporter and has helped make the Shootout what it is today with a guaranteed $3000.00 to win bracket race.

Over the last two years, Mike, Rich, and myself raised allmost $7000.00 for the Twin Quick 16 class. With entries of 6 and 5 respectively, it just dosen't make sense to me to continue it. We do have intention of paying at least $2000.00 to win in each of the Pro Stock 1000, All Motor, and Power Adder classes. Tough to say with today's economy. We will know more as the commitments come in.

We have gone back to the weekend that we had this race on for several years. July 11 & 12, 2009. Once again this will be an "all pro show". On Saturday we'll have the Quick class qualifying and bracket class time trials for sleds plus the F.X. Caprara Trailer Sales Invitational with the top 32 Super Pro and top 32 Pro cars in a Box/No Box Shootout. On Sunday the Pro Bikes will join us along with open fields in Super Pro, Pro, and Modified cars. No street classes to be run on either day.

Billy Moore told me a while back that he allready had the "entertainment" lined up for the party at Cooper's. Thanks to Bill, this tradition lives on.

Rich and I will post more information as it becomes availble. Please feel free to contact me with questions and input.

Vern

I would like to see an "All Out Shootout". Qualifying Saturday during the two time trials, build a quick 8 and run them Sunday. This will get all the, bracket only, guys at the track on Saturday and give them another class to run.  I will get my shop on board for some money for this class.

mike , that means the race in general from the onset when you originated it is still the richest/biggest, nameing last years awarded prizes ,  but not saying , that last year was higher than any year prior of the shoot out,  the race lives on , meaning  , the race you started,  and you still own that pride , knowone can take it away ,  just try and continue it...its....what was being said by vern.....imoWink

Re: 8th Annual Trucks-R-Us Pro Sled Shootout Inside Scoop

nhra's answer to the struggling economy , double all costs to participate ,  and then wonder why participation is low.....was 50.00 for two year licence , now 100.00   wonder what 60.00 a year membership went to ?   these guys dont just bump up things by 10 20 bucks ,  they double the damage, a big boo to nhra's  dumb move.

10 year old motor with lots of miles got a little warm this winter. Sending cylinders out to fix the chipping nikasil, might just be watching this year.
