Agreed this is the class where innovation is and if it really works it won't be long before everyone uses it and benifits from it.

Re: 8th Annual Trucks-R-Us Pro Sled Shootout Inside Scoop

guys Neverland is closed. 1st I called Jim at osp for sponsorship & saw that he was advertizing traction control so I told him it wasn't legal  & he argued that it made no difference & complained i didn't have rules posted. There is a NHRA rule book & its very clear about no traction control & for a reason, drag racing is a tuners game & I don't have time to post the rulebook. Did you guys forget that Glen Hall & Dale Roes came in last yr running 9.0's & tuned to a track record. Imagine funny car & top fuel with traction control the attendance would drop & it would be about as exciting as the nascar taxi cabs. So Jim I respect what you are doing with your big HP motors the spirit of drag racing & ESTA is tuning & Hp so come race with us & leave your BS3 controller home, besides if you beat somebody & your running traction control on a snowmobile it would be a pretty lame victory & most would consider it cheating just like NHRA would.

thanks, Rich Daly

this race has never been about nhra rules with the exception of safety !     top fuel cars to use traction control ,   it's in the clutches ,  this smells .........tell glenn from d+d to buy the unit ,   .....everything has got to become political ................Sad

Guess we'll have to wait until the next week at the fairgrounds to see an OSP sled run unless they come up with "one stop rules" . Neverland may be closed but Wonderland is right next door and open 24hrs

I guess now that my name has been brought into this, I need to state my position. Rich is doing a great job of promoting this race, and I will make every effort to attend and be competitive and abide by whatever rules. If the winner of this race wants bragging rights, all sleds should be allowed to compete, with everthing they have. Rules stink, and last minute rules stink even more. There are not so many outlaw sleds out there that we can afford to be outlawing (literally) some already. I am fine with my (Jason Iras) two stroke being outlawed from the twin class, as that is a lower class, and there is the option to move up. If you are outlawed from outlaw, then where do you go? If this rule was brought on by a competitors complaint, I want to make it clear that it wasn't me.

Re: 8th Annual Trucks-R-Us Pro Sled Shootout Inside Scoop

Rich, you know I have your back most of the time. This time is the exception.

This race has ALWAYS been RUN WHAT YA BRUNG, so long as its safe. And even then, there have been some questionably safe sleds out there.

The NHRA rules encompass Bracket Racing only. Not headsup, nor Exhibition Events such as this.

Had the NHRA rules been in effect:

Anyone not using Wahl skis would be illegal.

No W brackets for OEM Mudflaps (Rons favorite)

Stutter boxes (2 steps)

Tail lights

Titanium suspension springs

MSD 7531, 7530, 75301T boxes.

OEM apprearance must be maintained

Theres more, but there is enough to illustrate that Mikes race NEVER had rules, except safety.

Yes, Mike wanted full bodies sleds. Last year, Vern set precedence allowing Laydowns, citing Exhibition.

You cant drop rules in at the last minute, especially rules that would take out 1/2 the class.

Any MSD programmable ignition can be considered illegal if you went strictly by the rules. Especially one using a slew rate option.

Obama lied again.
Here comes the taxes for the middle class!

Re: 8th Annual Trucks-R-Us Pro Sled Shootout Inside Scoop

let me clean this up a little for rich ,  as i think he left 1/2 the description of this out !   i should have known ,   AUTOMATIC TRACTION CONTROL  ,  steve , like the ones in most new cars , i have to turn it off in our new lease cars when delivering , slows me down..lol    not sure how the cars do it , simplest way would be tie into the rear wheels on a front wheel drive , when the front out turn the rear by a certain pre-programed degree computor kills the power taking it out of the hands of the driver.  on a sled , not that its the way jim is doing it , but the way i would , use whats been around for years , jack shaft sensor ,  most all state of the art race vehicles these days have mapped comptutor systems , come back in and download and look at various things on your lap top during  the entire run ,   i would study the jack shaft speed a few runs , say blowing the track off and decent passes and develop a jack shaft speed map of what i thought optimal jack shaft speed during the entire run should be if it spikes above that programmed mapped perameter the computor will auto pull out boost and attempt to bring the jackshaft back into that perameter and help the sled get a grip,  in theory this should be an advantage that rich has decided goes to far even in a run what you brung safety only class ,  i personaly think it would have been a better rule applied to the 2010  race instead of jamming it down a racers throat less than two weeks from a race ,  i may also lean toward rich's decision a little more if this perticular sled in question has been running back to back 7 second passes somewhere ,   has it ??   ,  not that i've heard of , so i have to respectfully dissagree with rich's decision here ,   but him and vern are the boss,   i feel bad for jim ,  hope ya still come ,   i think when someone makes a rule decision , they should consider wether it will be agreed to by the majority of racers and spectators alike ,  not so sure this decision will make the majority ,  but who knows.................................

Re: 8th Annual Trucks-R-Us Pro Sled Shootout Inside Scoop

actualy atcs  do make things safer , remember that laydown nick was trying to run , jeeese , spinning and fish tailing thru the 1/4 mile ,  bet he'll never forget it....must of soild a pair of diddys every weekend...lol

and glenn ,  if they went my way on your two stroke turbo ,   you arent out lawed from twin with that sled ,  ya just cant run both ,    the object was to get your pride to direct you to the appropriate class based on your performance ..lol    if ya want you can run your 2 stroke in twin p-adder and enter your 4-stroke twin turbo in open p-adder...he he he ,      tricky stuff goin on here...lol

its all about max participation ....i dont think osp's sled was going to keep any open p-adders from comming , but rich's new rule may keep them from comming.....Sad  but if they do come rob fuller can ride ,  think he still holds the record at apple valley on his pro-mod bike ,  "nuts"  LOL   and thats comming from a nut.....Stick out tongue

Re: 8th Annual Trucks-R-Us Pro Sled Shootout Inside Scoop

Mr. Daly, hate to say it ,but your wrong, very wrong. This outlaw class has always been bring as much power as you can. I believe that the big debate a year or two ago was about tube bulkeads vs stock bulkeads and laydowns, which now is not a problem ( I think). Nothing in the NHRA book about outlaw sleds, events, ect....and this is, what this is! and ESTA is promoting it!

If you (Mr Daly) or some of your buddies feel you cant compete in the P/A outlaw class then dont! dont try and ruin it for the guys that are working very hard building these kind of "outlaw sleds" to run a a few select venues. possibly someday we all might have the same style of stuff

I can remember when n2o was not legal in regular bracket racing, some key people lobied for it, and now everyone on this side of the Mississippi has n2o on a sled, remember this is OUTLAW

maybe you should consontate on your P/S 1000 deal and your Mork and Mindy (NANO-NANO) n20 twin and leave everyone else alone at this point of the game!

one again I say Outlaw is Outlaw, the fans love to see it, hear it and its great compition. Bring them all, and lets set some great numbers!

I think Rich needs to back pedal on this move. Lets face it OSP and Glenn are at the top of the heap in terms of Fast and innovation. To tell guys at this level that are busting there nads to try and develop cutting edge technology that takes a lot of time and effort that you change the rules of the race and make all there work go out the window just isn't right. These guys are a huge draw and are what people come to see . Just my .02 FWIW as a sponsor.

Look out for 600's with mirrors!!

couldn't agree more....been telling alot of people about these types of sleds and that what they want to see.....really dont care about the Indy 600 or Rev power tech 800 stockers that run in the brackets..........................even though they are cool......just not as much to get pumped up to watch

Re: 8th Annual Trucks-R-Us Pro Sled Shootout Inside Scoop

I was coming this year as a spectator and not to watch Steve on his stock 600.  I want to watch the future of racing at this event. Things that normal guys like myself cannot build or tune. I want to see the baddest sleds ever built. As a spectator I do not care if they have traction control or not. I want to see the 7 second pass. Jim

Rich making rules? Who's teching Rich's fine rides? Sorry Rich, but safety has been the only real rule in the all motor and power adder classes for eons. You have pretty much flirted with disaster at every race since it began, so you may wanna direct your efforts there. Not trying to start a pissing match, but I'd be more afraid of crossing the finish line next to you at 155mph than I would be about a guy with traction control or whatever you wanna call it. Apparently it's not perfected or everyone would be running 7.40's with the power they have. Concentrate on safe steering spindles and leave the rules to grass drag racing.

Re: 8th Annual Trucks-R-Us Pro Sled Shootout Inside Scoop

Every single vehicle has a variable throttle correct ?? Well that in itself is traction control... Everyone with an aftermarket igntion of anytype has varied the timing to their advantage,, ( traction control ).. Is the clutch on your sled adjustable ??? ( traction control ).. So Dick, this means NO aftermarket igntions too RIGHT ??? be upfront, as to WHO you are serving,, yourself / the public / the good ole boy ??? King,, sorry to see your race defamed by a sniveling antique racer/builder.. Ron / Vern,, My heart aches for you guys, got mixed up with the wrong people ,,,,, KING COME BACK MAN !!!!! Save it before the ONLY guy at the hill is the winner,, When you are the only one at the race,, YOU ARE the MAN !!! no lieing in that statement.. Once again,, someone has *** on the open fuel class,, Next year, Each and every SPONSOR will have their OWN class to win ...just like nascar...snnnorrrrrrrr Gus
