I saw that he was in the running order Saturday,then a different guy on Sunday that didn't make the field???

Another guy that didnt make the field???? kristen told me on the ph they were only taking 16 sleds and we could not go We would have been no 18?? So they took a nice round 17 sleds?HUH

What did rich change on his sled that made them DQ him on Sunday that they Did not like when he showed up on Friday?

I am sure there is a good explanation for all.

I just got off the phone with Rich. His sled did pass inspection and did not get dq'd. After grueling tech and repeated harassment by NSA officials, NSA members and IHRA officals, Rich withdrew his entry.

Harassment from NSA officials and members?  The guys a regular and he's highly respected - even if his sled looks like it's built by a mad scientist (which it is), if it passes tech, why harrass the guy?  What's the rest of the story???

we have had a couple racers here at esta ,   remove their running boards ,  tech pondered this for qwite some time , it is in violation of the way the nhra book is written , 1.  that bend that makes up the running board adds to the structual ridgity of the tunnel , 2.  the running board keep your feet out of the track area and off the pavement if your foot slips off ,    considering rich's incident at the esta shoot out ,  esta tech made the decision they want running boards, the other racer or racers who removed them were asked to replace them in one way or another ,   not that this was riches pos prob out their ,  but its a ruling esta has since made.

thinking out of the box is what rich does ,  i think the same way , like the snow flap deal , my thinking was bikes dont have flaps why should we , same deal bikes got foot pegs and no running boards , why should sleds ,  nhra  dissagreed , i now have a SNOW FLAP ,

hope you werent implying i was chastising ihra/nhra or rich ,  i was pointing out his incident actualy changed ruleing at esta ,   local yocal or not ,  the ultimate goal of tech is safety of the racers , if the rule is their nhra/ihra and its ignored and someone gets hurt , they come back on the tech dept. if the racer has nhra pay the dr. bills thru its member ins.   and rich's tunnel is a focus in tech at the shoot out.  although he has added support down the sides to compensate the removed running boards , it still attracts concern.    at our facility shoot out time.  this is a matter of fact!  like i said , he wasnt the only one , others were told to replace their boards not long after the shoot out,  the saftey of the racer rich included is the objective ,  not chastising anyone.  

I thought front end must of been the problem but wasn't positive so I didn't post. I walked by Rich's pit and he was working on his sled under a canopy in the rain. He had the pipes and I believe the motor pulled out of the sled. Somone was standing in the belly pan or on the front bumper sort of jumping up and down on the front end and it looked really soft. Thought maybe he had broke something in the front end but maybe it is always like that.

scott , ,    rich has had a tough season with his style of engineering ,   he pushes the envelope in certain areas ,   he's lite , and his motors make big power ,   he's unique and qwite the charactor ,  when you push the envelope in certain areas , people watch you closer ,   if their is any apparent flaws in what they see ,  safety or performance wise ,  they act.    rich knows what happened,    he'll correct or modify what he feels was wrong,   think of him as the evil kanevil of sled drag racing.....lol    thats a compliment rich,   i like your style ,   ......you know that....someones got to ride the edge.       keep on trucking ,  move just far enough from the edge to make them happy....       ron

Rich makes great power, he just needs to cut all the bs and either build a real chassis or buy one. He's capable of building the nicest sled out there but he chooses the other route. I think it's just caught up with him. He's a great guy and I just hate to see him or anyone else get hurt.

your correct mike ,   he is capable ,   he seems to like the maguyver approach to things ,   make things do amazing things that dont look or appear like they ever can ,   i dont see a guy like rich on a billet or tube chassis with pretty paint and decals.....actualy , i dont want to..lol     just a few steps back from the edge....and he's goldon
