TRA

This past weekend, we had some issues with our TRA II primary clutches on the 1500 asphalt sled.  We managed to break two of the moveable sheaves.

I am aware of the "race dept." clutches, which are forged.  They are tougher, but the tolerances are different and do not respond quite as well to our application. Plus, those parts are all obsolete / replaced with newer versions.

My question is:  Is there any interest in a precision billet TRA 2 style primary ? Completely interchangeable with all OEM parts.Would include the fixed half and the moveable half.  Use your gov cup, spring cup cover, hardware, etc.

I think we could get these in hand for around $ 900

Any input ?

Re: TRA Primary problems

I gotta believe you'd sell a bunch of them. At that price especially. Lot's of fast sleds out there still running a TRA. Lanny, the Oliver Brothers, the Big D and Fish show.

Re: TRA Primary problems

I know that a people capable of making them have talked about producing and they have never come through. Patent issue?  I would really like a couple, I know a few racers in Norway and Sweden that would buy them. I cant speak for Lanny, but I am sure he and his crew would use them.

Re: TRA Primary problems

Ya, I've heard of all the different ones "coming", but nothing.

It's a very difficult part to make, requires 3d digitizing and modeling.  i.e. first one is very costly.

Re: TRA Primary problems

The first one will be done next week.

Very excited about these.  I had no idea how "out of whack" the parts were that we've been using.  So far, price is staying below $ 1000

There are a couple of the first run not yet spoken for.

If you are interested in one of these, please email me ---->  jamie.bellman@bellmanoil.com

Re: TRA Primary problems

I have not ever twisted one of these shafts, but I've only ran around 320 hp.

Not sure on the differences in dimensions between these and the newer stuff.  I do know these work pretty well drag racing and I do not like the press together clutches. (like the TRA 5)

Re: TRA Primary problems

Are these clutches with the old style 1:10 30 mm taper or the new .75:1 taper?

Re: TRA Primary problems

I don't know the technical terms on the tapers.

Most will be for the 3 cylinder 809 tapers and a few will be the smaller tapers (like the 583 twin).

Hope that makes sense ?

Re: TRA Primary problems

They would be the 1:10 30mm taper. I would like at least one, and as soon as I talk to the boys over seas maybe a few more.

You know a very good 3D designer , I have Catia V5 at home (not upand running yet). a clutch would be cake but I need to make sure my3D solid modeling program will work. If I was still at work it would be nothing to do. Heck I did a complete 1000 cylinder ready to send to the prototype shop. My hourly rate wouldn't hit you toooo bad Wink

Re: TRA Primary problems

We're using solid works for this one.  Didn't realize that is what you did Frank.  That is some cool stuff for sure.
