Re: TRA Primary problems

If you're going this far, why not make a four arm TRA?

Re: TRA Primary problems

I would love to see a few pictures as well. That is my favorite clutch, so although it wasn't in my budget, I may have to become a part of it. How many are being done in the older 583 small taper, or will that be in a second run?

Re: TRA Primary problems

I will post some pics in a few days.

Willing to make as many as needed in each taper.

As for "why not make a 4 arm " ?  little more difficult to do, as a new spring cup and governor cup would also be needed.  Would be quite a bit more money too.

Re: TRA Primary problems

As a CAT guy getting rid of my CAT primary to run a TRA, that billet clutch is very impressive. WOW.   cant wait to see final results.

Re: TRA Primary problems

what do you think the weight difference will be between this or a cast one.  even a forged from skidoo.

Re: TRA Primary problems

Shoud weigh just a little more than the cast and equal or less than the forged.

Re: TRA Primary problems

Looks very nice. I have had a few cracked ones and sawed a motor in half with the cast clutches. This is a great Idea. Have had good luck with the one Polaris TRA 2 billet fixed sheave that I had made and the forged TRA 2 moveable on the 4cyl.

Re: TRA Primary problems

i wonder the same.  aren't the face angles different on the tra 2-5's?  can you run an 069 triple belt on a tra 2-5?

Re: TRA Primary problems

HAHA! Funny you say that Mr. Bman! My TRA3 Has a multi angle to the sheeves. Must be designed for trail riding only. Maybe for back shifting purposes? All I know is we cut i think .035 into the sheeve to get back the 1 angle i needed. I had a hell of a time trying to tune with the 2 angles in it for drag racing. BTW Im running an RT chassis now!  I changed so many belts didnt make difference. cant wait to c what happens altering it! Maybe putting an order in Jamie! lol!

Re: TRA Primary problems

Good explanation of some of the differences in the above link.

My opinion is that multi-angle is not good for drag racing and I happen to prefer the longer straight arms of the TRA 2 and I HATE the tapered governor cup, so decided to build what I wanted.  Big Smile

Re: TRA Primary problems

2 suggestions. Can you make an 8 1/2'' or 9"? If not.. Can you leave enough material on the inside by the post so the angle can be cut and make the clutch come together more so the belt will ride higher (more O.D.). Here I go giving away big speed secrets.

Re: TRA Primary problems

This one will be 8.450.  The one on my sled is 11" O.D., kinda weird when the primary is bigger than the secondary, eh ?

Re: TRA Primary problems

Wow, what a project.  Now I know why this has not been done before.

Still moving forward and moveable halves are done ready for sheaves to be cut.  Taking longer than I had thought, but are they NICE.  Will be worth the wait.
