Re: World Series of Ice Port Huron Michigan
Hi Kris,
My friend just called on rooms $160.00 per night????? any racers discount???
If we have to drive this distance to pay these type of prices for rooms, I am not sure?
I have been racing ice drag sleds since 1980 and never seen prices like this?
As all you drivers know I am not one to ***!!!
If so what kind of money is it going to take to race?
IAM SORRY KRIS I NEED SOME ANSWERS.

Re: World Series of Ice Port Huron Michigan
Tim I will get my partner to list a bunch of rooms at a reasonable price. All it will cost you is $25 weekend pass & I think your classes are $30 a class. I didn't know these hotels were so steep. We will find good rooms at a reasonable rate Don't Worry.

Tim,just get the room and we will all pile in and split the cost.$160 a night divided by 10 people comes out to $16 a piece/night.Pretty cheap if you ask me.

Re: World Series of Ice Port Huron Michigan
Hi Kris,
Thanks for bringing the World Series down to Port Huron. I was at the race last year and couldn’t believe the amount of spectators watching. This is going to be a really cool race.
With that being said, I came away from that race with a strong opinion! The really fast sleds (open mod, outlaw, PS1000) didn’t really start getting on the track until around 5-6 p.m. that night. I made the final in PS1000 and was sitting on my sled at the starting line at 10:45 p.m. and looked into the spectator crowd and counted 3 people watching! Actually they weren’t watching the were standing around a barrel fire trying to get warm.
Anyways, I wish you would consider changing the run order of this event other then what you have listed on the first page. Why not let the big iron (shootout classes) qualify first on Saturday and race first on Sunday? These are really the world class sleds and what the World Series should be about. They should also get the best ice so records can fall. If you try to save them to the end of the day it just does a big in-justice to the owners, builders, racers, and spectators. Your spectators are not going to sit out in the freezing cold all day and into the night.

Re: World Series of Ice Port Huron Michigan
Kris !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree just let the big boys run on good ice!! Not the first races of the day but 2ish would be great. This would keep the people in the stands eating and drinking and let the racers, owners and spectators watch some good racing. Me as a owner/builder of a High dollar sled hate being one of the only people watching the big guns run. This would bring more people to the races and watch all day racing. I have no problem with a Friday or Saturday night shootout under the lights as long it is posted as that. Sundays late afternoon sucks for everyone.
Bottom line it is sad for $100,000.00 of sleds to sit on the starting line with just the crews and owners watching!!!!!!!!!!
COME ON PEOPLE TELL THEM THAT THIS IS GOOD IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: World Series of Ice Port Huron Michigan
Not so good of an idea. Does any type of successful show start a weekend with the headliner or the fastest? Examples, Nascar, your local dirt oval track, a rock concert. No they don't. I guess they got it all wrong .. I believe you have the top gun shootout coming the following week that is all about you. If another Series is held where the smaller sleds with the shorter tracks cannot get traction and end up dialing 2/10th out of there times in order to hook due to a torn up track by the 144 in big sleds, then you can forget any serious turn out by this group. You build racers, racing participation and grow this sport from the bottom up not the top down. I swear there is a vocal group out there that cannot or will not get there mind around the history of how this sport grew. Priority # 1 is racer participation in any class. From there in time some will jump and eventually build into your classes. Thats how it grew when it grew . Its like you guys have tunnel vision and as numbers continue to drop your still not gettin it. Your killin yourself by not realizing a progression has to take place in order get people in place where you want them. If you screw over the smaller sleds and make them realize it was a frickin joke again like they got in last years Sunday track situation then you might as well run two weekends in a row of Top Gun Shootout. Cause an alternative will be in place . Kris knows what he is doing and why. Its got nothing to do with any heat from me. Its about whats going to need to take place to keep racing going in general. Re: World Series of Ice Port Huron Michigan
Well……. first off your examples are bad. Samecar, dirt track, and rock concerts are finished anywhere from 3.5 hours to 2 hours for an event. So it makes sense to lead up to the finalley . Theses races take much more time then usually anticipated. The spectators just are not there for the teams who have battled all day to make it to the final. It’s very disappointing for the guys who have made large investments to grow the sport.
The point you bring up about the small sleds dialing 2/10ths because of poor ice is a good point. Now……. reverse the situation! The 144” guys can’t sit down it the 121” grooves that trail stockers and john deers’ have laid to the 100’ mark. In all actuality the shoot out type caliber sleds are probably the easiest on the ice. The majority are tested and tuned and will just leave pic marks. If you spin, you don’t win……simple as that!
I also agree about Priority #1 being racer participation….. I agree 100%. Do you know what the largest participated class is now? I do. It is PS1000. It was all year on the dirt and at the WS last year. PS800 was right there with it at the 2007 WS. So WHY have the largest participated class and most prestigious class run in the dark on the worse conditions?
I race at every race with Kris except for a few northern Canada races. I followed his circuit as far away as New York and Minnesota. I’m just putting the questions out there because I want to see the spectators. If you run all the small sleds and vintage stuff during the day and break the “Big Guns” out late in the day, then guess what? THE SPECTATORS ARE GONE!!!!!
Just my humble opinion…..Dan Fisher

Dan, I think you are wrong. Those were not spectators standing by the barrel. I am sure they were homeless people. Anyone with common sense was not standing outside that night. Peter

Re: World Series of Ice Port Huron Michigan
Well, your examples aren't exactly correct either. We don't run Trail Sleds till everybody else is done & the lone John Deere would shear less ice if it ran all day that one big sled that lit it up on one pass.
Everybody that comes to race makes a investment. The last two WS have both not gone according to plan. Both times because of the Weather either killing Sundays races or not allowing for flooding/Track Repair on Saturday night for Sunday. I'm not pushing some out of line vintage or other class thing but in case you didn't know, Vintage AA had the largest # of entries of any class two years ago at Gaylord. All in all, 60+ entries that year were coming from a MRRSIDR vintage rules package. So you see who brings the most sleds to bear in a particular class can be both seasonal and/or location influenced. I see you and Pete are pushing the spectator issue. Well a twist on that is that maybe there is a potential new racer in that crowd.( You know, new blood that we need worse than spectators) Would either one of you advise him/her to jump right in to 1000 cc PS ? Thats why he/she needs exposure to something less spendy. You got to allow growing steps to train them and get them against competition that doesn't know it all ( ) if your going to retain them long enough to get them to a level like that. I'm sittin here thinking, damn don't you guys already have 3 shoot out classes now at the WS & a Top Gun just for you the following weekend. Looks to me like you already got most of the hog and your not going to be happy till you have the oink to boot. A little to one sided from my perspective. MMR

Re: World Series of Ice Port Huron Michigan
I think Dan and also I want the spectators to see something that their station wagon wouldn't be able give a good run. If the spectators don't show up until midnite, then that's when we should run the fast stuff. But that's not the case here.
I would love for some of those people to come out of the crowd and start racing stock or vintage, but you can't tell me they would rather see those sleds race. TB

Re: World Series of Ice Port Huron Michigan
Sure everyone makes an investment. I agree again, but shouldn’t the 20k prostocker or 50k outlaw sled be run when people can see how fast they are? I’m sorry but the guy who has 2k in his whole race program should not get the best ice and all the spectators. He just shouldn’t.
I believe there were 60 vintage sleds 2 years ago but I believe they were probably spread over 10 different classes that did nothing but confuse the poor spectator. I know I was.
Actually I would advise someone to jump right into PS1000. I did 8 years ago. Never raced in any other class. I got my butt handed to me for 4-5 years but worked hard at it and eventually started getting somewhere. I also have always bought used motors and mostly used parts. I’m definitely no open wallet.
Listen……I’m not asking anybody to not come and race. The more the merrier! I’m just asking the run order to be re-considered. I want to race in front of spectators and high 5 fans coming back down the return road!!!!!!!
