TOGGENBURG: 2010 HILLCLIMB/DRAG SCHEDULE

Posted June 19, 2009

Hey Hey,

I figured I'd roll out our 2010 Hillclimb schedule...dates are as follows:

Sunday January, 10th

Sunday February, 21st

Saturday March, 27th

Saturday April, 3rd

I've had some racers...primarily in the Mod classes ask if I would consider moving the finish line down... more in the range of 500-600ft like BJR vs ours at 900+ft, I've heard it from both sides, bring it down, leave it alone...it does not matter to me however, go to "you tube" type in Toggenburg Hillclimb and you can see a clip of our Feb 22nd race, the video that is 5:11min. Checkout the back to back races at the 3:35 and 3:47 minutes between Dale Swartwout (Swartwout Racing) and Jim Wagner (Swoyer racing), it looks like Dale is ahead at the 600ft mark (that lip where your skis come off the ground) but Wags ran him down in the last 300ft. Thoughts?

Thanks,

Re: TOGGENBURG: 2010 HILLCLIMB/DRAG SCHEDULE

JERRY, GREAT JOB , BUT I HAVE ONE QUESTION

       (1)   IS THERE GOING TO BE A PAYOUT AND NOT JUST FOR 1ST PLACE OR KING ?????????

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION BECAUSE WITH ALL THE RACES THIS YEAR COMING UP AND THE ALMOST 1000 FT MARK , IF THERE NOT ADDRESSED TURN OUTS MIGHT NOT BE  AS USUAL.     JERRY I M NOT TRYING TO BE A DICK BUT WE GOT ALOT OF MONEY INVESTED ESPECIALLY THIS YEAR, AND WERE GOING WERE THE MONEY IS. NOTHING PERSONAL JUST BUSINESS . REMBER  I LOVE YA LIKE A BROTHER BUT IT TAKES ALOT OF $$$$$ TO COME WITH 6 SLEDS AND RACE FOR A THOPHY. ENOUGH WITH THE DONATION   ( NOT TALKIN ABOUT CLIMB FOR THE CURE)  TRAIL SYSTEM BULL!!!!!!!

AND THE ALMOST 1000 FT MARK LIKE U SAID  50/50 IM IN THE 50% THAT WOULD LIKE IT A LITTLE SHORTER BECAUSE OF THE MONEY WE HAVE IN OUR MOTORS  AND A 1000 FT IS A LONG WAY ROUND, AFTER ROUND ,AFTER ROUND, AFTER ROUND, AFTER ROUND, AFTER ROUND, ECT ECT ECT.. ALSO FUEL  BEING SHORTER ALSO MAKES IT A LITTLE MORE COMPETIVE IN THE BIGGER CLASSES.

JERRY YOUR A GREAT GUY WITH ALOT OF CLASS AND BY NO WAY, IM TRYING TO TARNISH YOU OR YOUR RACE  I RESPECT YOU ALL FOR WHAT YOUR DOING. HELP US HELP YOU...

  THANKS WAK PAK RACING

I'll throw in my vote for 600' .

Also I think it's great if you guys can get the schedules lined up so we can have sat & sun races.

Re: TOGGENBURG: 2010 HILLCLIMB/DRAG SCHEDULE

600 feet is what all the other races are +/- !  It isn't a good idea to change our set ups from race to race and 1000 feet is really tough on the engines,  we all need to keep our costs to a minimum and a long course increases the chance of a engine failure.

The race is great at tog but some one needs to say the time between runs is crazy fast if your winning and get down to the last few runs they stopped a friend from running when he was trying to change his bottle out no good in my opinion. Other than that complaint the race is great there and would like to see 600 ft

700-900 feet, with decent payouts, and we'll attend your races. Otherwise, it's other, paying venues for us. These days it's just too darn expensive to race for trophys.

Re: TOGGENBURG: 2010 HILLCLIMB/DRAG SCHEDULE

900 ft You have a hill that is a drivers hill & horsepower hill do not ruin because of  liberals. Plus the big bore cat whiners want the long hill when they run little sleds. You addressed safety last yr when you took the big jump out. If a guy is set up for 600 ft & has a little sled he can change gearing & a jet. I ran the same setup all yr on my XP 800, same gear, original plugs & belt & went from Togg to Plattekill & set the 500 ft record for that hill. Blowing up ? we run 1/4 mile so whats the big deal, lets keep racing racing. I would like to see a better payout for everybody so why not chg $5 at gate & pay more. On second thought make the hill 875' Deeder passed me at 880'. Jerry stop by ESTA July 12th & watch 1320'

thanks,

Rich Daly

RICH , PAVEMENT AND GRASS ARE SO DIFFERENT YOU CANT EVEN  COMPARE WE DON T GET ANY COOL DOWN TIME    NONE    PER ROUND AND BETWEEN CLASSES ESPECIALLY WITH JERRY AND HIS FLAG  AND   YOU OF ALL PEOPLE KNOW THAT.. WE WAITED FOR YOU A TON OF TIMES AT EVERY MOUNTIAN  TO COOL YOUR SLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!            WE CAN T HAVE THE TIME... SO... BEING A LITTLE SHORTER MAKES THING EASIER ON THE MOTORS

Re: TOGGENBURG: 2010 HILLCLIMB/DRAG SCHEDULE

I'm for leavin it 900ft AS IS.  Sure, there are plenty of setup variables to contend with, but just build your machines accordingly.  You never saw us hooking up a cool-down cart or changing a bottle.  We too tried changing gearing a few times, but in retrospect, it was just a waste of time.  I have my fair share of $$$ invested also, but no worries of failures or rubbin dimes together for race fuel on my part.  I totally agree with Rich.  Racing is Racing!  And another way of sayin it ....build the sled for the hill ...don't change the hill for the sled.
How about trying to build the best All-a-Round race sled for hill drag racing.  Sure, you can bring your lake racer, grass drag, or asphault sled, but its not that type of track.  Glad no one brought a watercross sled last race or they would be asking to add more waterholes!

DEFINITELY 100% in agreement ...get more money into the mod classes!  I don't care how.

And Joe, how about layin off the all caps in BOLD print.  Yer makin my eyes bug out!!!!!!!

You asked for it, well there is MY 2cents!

i am for leaving the hill the length it is. i definitely think you need to have some payback or else your races are going to be real small next year.

Re: TOGGENBURG: 2010 HILLCLIMB/DRAG SCHEDULE

WE ALL HAVE A GOOD TIME THERE AND i WOULD BELIEVE THAT A 5 DOLLAR ENTRY ON EVERY ONE AND PAYBACK 75% TO THE WINNER AND 25% TO THE RU IS PLENTY FAIR.  ME AND JERRY TALKED LAST YEAR ABOUT THE PAYOUT THING AND ALL HE KEEP TELLING ME IS THAT IT IS A FUND RAISER, i BELIEVE SINCE THE DAVE M STARTED DOING THEM HE HAS SET THE BAR REALLY HIGH SO EITHER TOGG FOLLOWS SUIT OT I BELIEVE THE SLED COUNT WILL FALL GREATLY

Re: TOGGENBURG: 2010 HILLCLIMB/DRAG SCHEDULE

I say leave the hill the length it is that is what makes it unique.  So what if the mod people (I run in mod) have to run our sleds harder, if your sled cant handle it then leave it home.  I think it makes it more competitive the harder you have to work your machine.  The big thing is that it is much easier for us mod people to adjust our sleds something we are always doing to tweak every last ounce of performance out it,  than the average Joe off the street who wants to race and be competitive.  This is what racing is all about, keeping racing easy for the average Joe to compete in, and the 900 ft track is well suited to that.  It keeps the guys who have the knowledge to setup sleds and those who don't as much more equal, nothing upsets me more when its not.

A payout on the otherhand would be great, but if you can't make that happen your turnout hasn't ever really been bad has it, I will still be there. Jerry you guys do a great job

Re: TOGGENBURG: 2010 HILLCLIMB/DRAG SCHEDULE

Leave the hill alone. The same people will win every week if we change things up.Surprise As far as running this race slower to alow nos to be changed or a run cool down NO WAY.  TRAIL STYLE RACING. I recall quite a few posts last year about making it fair for the trail guy's. If you cant run back to back with your machine you need to go back on the ice, grass or pavement and stay off the hill. If someone has a legit problem give em a minute or two but not just to change a bottle or run a cool down.Big Smile What is happening now is guys are bringing ice, grass, or tar purpose built sleds to the hill and want us to change the way we race so they benifit.  We are very limited on the time we have on the hill now. I think that the most of us come setup for HILLDRAG racing and dont expect the hill to change for us.   good luck to everyone over the summer. Cool

Re: TOGGENBURG: 2010 HILLCLIMB/DRAG SCHEDULE

Deff. a  $$$$ issue but i dont think  i would mind it going down to 600' track. As far as the average joe and setups all the week in and week out racers should be kept out of certain classes. to keep the sport growing. like have a trail stk and a trail mod for that and then have an isr stk, improved and pro-mod. i for one would not go cherry picking. i was that guy once and it sucks when a race sled with hrs. of tuning comes into your class and sweeps it.but the 600 ft. thing all of daves races are 600 its only smart to do the same. in the summer you dont set your grass sled up for an all around good setup. You set it up for 500 ft. and thats it. And how tight is the competion there more times than not you see tenths between place 1 and 4 not seconds and thats racing.  Just my 2 cents

Re: TOGGENBURG: 2010 HILLCLIMB/DRAG SCHEDULE

Wow Rich you always have to throw some sort of dig on all your posts to us Cat guys.  And to think this coming from a guy who shows up at the races at 7PM when Registration ends at 1PM and then continues to hold up the show with having push his sled around cause it is overheating with a Stock motor HAHA
