2001 XCR 800 Gearing Questions

I have a stock 2001 XCR 800 with a black primary spring. I was looking at what other people have done to theirs for gearing and it seems like everyone is running a 22/40 compared to the stock 24/39. I brought a 22/40 gearing, but now I'm doubting it. Am I going to lose a lot of top speed by doing that?? Is it worth it??

Thank you,

Patrick

It depends on you riding style. It will certainly accelerate quicker but you'll need good traction, it will use more gas, and you will loose 10 or more mph on the top end..maybe 15.If you rip through tight trails it will be a blast you will sacrifice those long legs that sled has.I run a 40/23 and I love it but I also play out on the lakes and mostly trail ride .0-100 comes up real fast !!!!! I have seen 118 on the speedo with that gear but they are not always accurate. I also spin the motor to 8500 rpms...pipes/ porting.Your rpms won't be that high with stock pipes.

It's always a trade off.

Look out for 600's with mirrors!!

the new gear set is a pretty nice set up.  Should work alright. I'd say you could change a tooth but you already got them so don't worry, fine set.  It'll waken up your low and some mid without really any noticeable top-end.    Did two teeth on top and bottom gears,  woke the storm up and still hold the top.

Stock gearing is 24/39 and as far as I am concerned, its a pretty good setup for all around purposes. Being the XCR8 motor already has tons of power and torque, dropping gearing down lower would only makes u get less mpg, more track spins. Unless youre running 136 long track version or longer and plenty of tractions, then I can see you might wanna playing with the gearing. Like others above, depending on your riding style and what you want your sled to do. WL

Re: 2001 XCR 800 Gearing Questions

I run 22/40 gears in both my 2000 XCR and my 2002 Edge-XCR and will be using the same gearing in my recently acquired 2002 XCR, there is trade off definatley.. But with that gear set you still can see triple digits but you will get there alot faster,  Traction is a MUST to make the most out of the 22/40 gear set, I actually get decent MPG's using this gear set, It's much easier on Belts, and out of the corner acceleration is awesome. needless to say if traction is obtained holeshot and acceleration is arm stretching..

Re: 2001 XCR 800 Gearing Questions

I just changed the gearing in my 99 XCR 700 from 24/40 to 22/40 to make it quicker. I can't wait to experience the arm stretching acceleration this will bring to the sled.
