Hey guys, Just to give a heads up on the date and venue for the Big Moose Shoot Out so you can make arrangements if you are coming. Last year we had a great turn out with some major iron on the lake. Its great meeting everyone and putting faces with names. This year we are going to shoot for a little longer trail ride. Maybe 20-30 miles instead of the 10-15 miles like the past 2 years. Also for this year there is no rules other then you have to do the trail ride to compete. That opens the door to a true "Run what you Brung" race. Date is sat Feb. 13th 2010. This will be a Snow race, 1000' distance, which lake it will be on is unknown till the day of the race, double elimination race, and there is no money involved Thank you and hope to see you there. Rules and the run down 10AM meet at the Enchanted Forest parking lot. 11am I will call all drivers up and there will be 2 colored stickers issued. Each sticker will have a number. These represent the order in each heat, and bracket. Stickers will be place on center of windshield. STICKERS WILL ONLY BE ISSUED HERE, IF YOU SHOW UP AT THE TRACK WITHOUT STICKERS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RUN IN THE RACE. I WILL NOT HAND ANY OUT AFTER WE LEAVE FOR TRAIL RIDE. 11:30 we hit the trail...)FYI this is old Forge and a trail pass is required, I think it is 40 bucks for a weekend pass, all sleds must be registered in NY. The fine is 300 without trail pass and 350 without registration.) You must go for the trail ride, if you cut off and short cut to the lake, you will be DQ'd. while we are riding the track is being set up, and I have spotters through out the pack. 12:30 ish Arrive at lake, track will be set up. which lake is unknown untill the AM of race day. How the race goes: The 2 stickers you got will be 2 different colors and numbers, each represent the order of your heat in each bracket. We run heats of 3 sleds, with 1 winner, 2 losers. If you lose go to the spot man at the finish line and he will remove the proper sticker. once through the first bracket, we reset the start line, and continue with the same system. Lose 2 times and your out. For staging for your heat. We will call out the numbers in order. 1st heat is 1,2,3 they race 4,5,6 then they race, and so on. Pay attention to your number, we will call it a few times then move on with out you if you are not ready. Don't show up to the line for your heat you lose that race. We ask that you stage up behind the start line in you order to keep the race moving along. This is a round robin race and continues like above till we get down to the semi finals and finals. Your numbers determine who you race. The lowest 3 numbers race that heat. Simple and fair and random. There will be no time allowed for cool downs, fixes, repairs, etc. This is a unlimited trail sled race. If you can not line up when called you lose that heat. Make sure you have enough fuel for the trail ride and race. Again, 1000' SNOW track. No rules other then you have to trail ride it to the lake. Trail ride will be around 20-30 miles. THERE IS NO MONEY INVOLVED, AND NO ATTITUDES. This is for fun and a chance to meet everyone that shares the same interests. Race starts by drop of the glove. if you jump the glove you lose that race. Spotter at finish line has final say. 1st place wins a drink of there choice and a cheeseburger And the trophy that they must bring back to defend next year!! This is a laid back fun day, please keep that in mind. Any questions give me a call-609-496-4224 If you need info on Old Forge or Directions or lodging etc.--www.oldforgeny.com has all the info you need, or call me and I can direct you. My father and I will be at slickers Friday night the 12th for any one to come out for a few drinks or questions, Then after the race I am planning something, still working on the place, but might have some food availible I will post more later when I have more info on that. Snow in the forcast every day this week, should be good this saturday. It doesn't appear that chissels will help, even if they make it through a trail ride down some roads. Who's going???

How are you Mark? From your mouth to gods ears is how it goes I think. Im praying to the snow gods also to do some trail riding with my grandchildren in Speculator. Are the trails really bad now? I also heard some poor 21 yr old went through the ice over the weekend up there. God bless her

Re: Is the Big Moose shootout this weekend and where?
It all depends on trail conditions, we started this race to be on big moose a few years ago, and the bad trail conditions have always held us from doing so. I have heard that the roads and trails are in good riding condition, so we are trail riding to big moose and running the race up there.
Everyone has 2 choices for food, bar etc. Big moose inn and the Glenmore.
Anyone has any questions give me a call

theres way to many of us to buy trail permits, lake riders only.theres 60 ITALIANS that planned on going, everyone loves daikers.thats going to be the hardest part is too convince evryone to go to big moose.weve had way to much trouble with trailor tires and axles on big moose rd.i ll see what everyone says.

AJ, just out of curiousity, are you going to make it out of NJ? Another foot on top of what you have and all the power outages I've seen on the news. Are you in the middle of that mess?

One thing that Fourh Lake does not have is a gas pump. The marina to the right of the Big Moose Inn is a gas pump that sells 93 Octane. There is no attendent and it is CREDIT CARD only. They do not take American Express.

Yup it is all messed up here, 30" snow on sat and another 12-20 coming tonight. I snowplow in phila and will be getting done around thurs morning and jumping in a truck to drive up and do this race. Down here in wildwood we haven't had power for 3 days.
Oneida Lake crew. I understand what you are saying, but in old forge there isn't one spot that will support what you are saying. 20 or so trucks and trailers, plus the other people that are coming. we are looking to have about 75 to 90 entrees and most of them have trailers etc. We just all have to figure it all out. Just because 10 people want it on 4th lake, makes it hard to change the entire venue.
Last year we had 52 in the race and another 100 or so sleds that did the trail ride with us. There are just to many opinions on how to do it and where to do it.
Plus we all are trail riding to the race, thats the entire point of this, and not just a few laps around the lake either. I am sorry if it will not work for all of you, but Vince you know how hard it is to make every one that shows up happy. And this is a race that don't involve a single penny. No prizes other then a cheese burger and a beer to the winner. I hope you all understand, and I still hope to see you guys come up and race. After all this really is just to meet everyone and have a good time and maybe win some bragging rights.

Re: Is the Big Moose shootout this weekend and where?
All in All the race will be held on the lake that has the best snow/hard pack track that we can take over for the day, and from what I have seen this season so far is Big Moose. Please give me a call Friday night at the latest and I can update everyone where it will all be held. My number is listed above. For parking trucks trailers, etc. The enchanted forest where we are meeting up at has tons of parking , just have to get a permit which I think is 30 or 40 for the weekend.

Re: Is the Big Moose shootout this weekend and where?
Race venue changed a bit due to no trail conditons. We will be meeting up at Daikers on the lake at 12. Then we will go through all the bs and get to racing. No trail ride will be happening. This is a snow race, the lake has a few inches of hard pack down. Hope this makes it around in time for everyone to hear the change. I will be at the enchanted forest in the am 10-11 to guide everyone to the new set up. Any questions give me a call aj 609-496-4224
